ill be honest, i couldn't care less who pays what or how anyone wins (except the cubs, go buy em all)

billionaires giving these [expletive] 26 year old republicans 400 million to play baseball games no one watches or cares about doesn't make me feel good. i dont care if the mets win spending 500 million or the As win spending 12 million, they all make too much money

like if you met carlos correa the human and he was like hey i have 800 million in the bank you'd be like horsefeathers this guy, but because a billionaire gives him the money im supposed to be like yeah go off king. horsefeathers them all

You're not wrong about any of it. They are all incredibly rich and removed from the day-to-day struggles of most Americans

I love my teams, like when Just Fields wins us a SB I'm going to dance on every packer fans grave

But I struggle with capitalism every day. It isn't fair, it REALLY isn't fair, what a capitalistic society will pay the most for.

Can’t see it being the Cubs. Too close to the LT now I think

As has been mentioned a lot, I don’t think they’d be against going over the LT this year for the right guy/moves. With all the money falling off after the year they could easily reset next year while having room to add. The only reason not to be in on Correa would be if this medical issue is really that big of a worry, which don’t blame them, or if they truly think they can get Ohtani next year and will wait until then to go over the LT.

Nobody has said they are adverse to going over the LT, they try and not be repeaters but I’d be surprised if they aren’t over the LT in the next 3 years.

Next year will be their year to be over. They will stay under this year unless the team **significantly** over performs as they approach the trade deadline.

According to reports the Cubs never made him a formal offer so I don’t think they’re interested at all.

That may have been because they knew he was looking for a 10+ year contract and it seems like the Cubs aren't interested in contracts over 7 or 8 so they didn't bother.

They made an offer last year, if the Mets thing falls through and they’re comfortable with the medicals I’d think they’re in on him.

how much are we willing to commit to a guy two desperate teams have talked or are talking themselves out of signing?

Trying to think whether a short term high AAV deal would be considered intelligent spending given the circumstances. On one hand it’s taking advantage of circumstances to get a premium player at a great value. On the other hand whatever this injury is was enough to scare 2 teams.

He could be Mike Hampton v2.0

What does this mean

Sign a guaranteed, multi-year deal and then have an injury that makes him miss huge amounts of time (or he never plays again).

If the medicals are enough to scare off one team and give the second team pause, it's significant enough to worry about a long-term contract

Neagle made 58 starts in the two years after signing his Colorado deal (3.8 total fWAR), and then had a variety of things go wrong (including injuries) and only pitched 35 more innings. But that was driven largely by a solicitation arrest that let Colorado get out of the contract. But he also signed that contract going into his age 32 season, and was a pitcher. So, closer, but still no.

If you're looking for a bad contract because of...let's say injuries...how about Prince Fielder?

btw - I just looked up his stats and how is he still only 38 years old? Time for a comeback, Prince!

Mo Vaughn with the Angels came to mind.

The Hampton contract was a disaster because he was bad, not injured.

Who am I thinking of? Neagle?

Kevin Brown

Chan Ho Park

Jason Schmidt

Carl Pavano

hampton had tons of injuries on the braves

There was a whole failure and redemption arc before injuries came into play. He got bit by the injury bug 4.5 years into his contract, at around age 33. The contract was considered a disaster well before that. He spent two years tossing batting practice in Colorado before being traded for Ryan Baker and Tim Spooneybarger.
