Bears Week 7 @ Patriots, Monday Night Football 10/24

When the Pats went up 14-10 it just felt like a moment so many Bears teams would have folded over.

So 7 weeks in now. What have we seen from the Bears so far:

 

-1 blowout win

-2 close wins

-3 close losses

-1 blowout loss

 

The bears are not good (probably) and the schedule is super hard but that’s not bad all things considered

That game was surprising. The biggest positive was the coaching staff imo. This team on offense is perhaps the least talented in the NFL and they looked dominant on MNF. Will be fun to see how this coaching staff does with increased talent.

 

Just a thought. Maybe recency bias but which team has a brighter future? Bears or Packers?

Mac Jones looked like every Bears terrible QB bust and Zapp Brannigan or whatever his name is looked like every stupid random QB who outplayed them for three weeks and created a QB controversy when the problem was that they both sucked

Well horsefeathers me dead as the Australians would say, who the hell saw that coming? I know the Bears are bad, and the spread along with the thought this was going to be a blowout was a reflection of this terrible Bears team. After watching, it's not like this Patriots team is good in fact, they're not much better than the Bears.

Missed that one damn play because of a nut shut by a dirty mid QB.

Brisker looks great, Gordon has looked good the last few weeks and Robinson looks good to great as well. Braxton Jones looks overmatched, but given his draft status I'd expect that in years. With 2 muffed punts and his inability to get on the field with a team that has almost no WR talent, Velus Jones is the most disappointing one. Jury is out on Ebner, but he always looks slow to me in his minimal touches.

Looking over at ESPN, Justin Fields for his last 4 games has a 49.6 QBR. That would rank 19th in the league among current full season marks. His last 3 games he has a 54.6 QBR, which would rank 13th.

 

We can't just wave off those first three games right now as that's nearly half his season. But the Giants game onward has felt like pretty normal young QB stuff. Hopefully as we get further from those early games it continues to become clear that those were the anomaly.

I thought Gordon was beat, wr had a step on him, until Gordon was streaking down the sideline for 42 yards. He closed on the wr fast and it helped the throw was a tad behind

His interception was a really good play too. Yes, Zappe held it way too long before making the throw, but he was in pretty good coverage and made a good play on the ball.

Gordon basically refused to score a TD on that one. He certainly could have outrun everyone down the sidelines if he wanted to. I thought that was odd, but he was tired and the game was over at that point.

Nah. I think they'll try to make it work with one of them. Jones was a 1st round pick. He had 1 solid year, and so far 3-4 iffy games. He has a better foundation thru 1 1/2 years than Fields at this point. They probably won't pick high enough where they HAVE to take QB as the BPA. And I don't see any reason for them to trade up for one. Give Jones 1 more year and Zappe 2 if he actually takes over and plays decently.

A good throw and that's a completion.

 

But Pats don't have a guy who can make the throws all the time. Plenty of teams don't. Gotta take advantage, and Gordon make a nice play on the ball when he was given that opportunity. Can't ask for much more.

Certainly, appears this coaching is a complete 180 from the previous in that they're capable of making adjustments, putting players in a position to succeed. Can't help but think what's possible with a fairly large influx of talent in 2023.
