2022 Complain about your fantasy team that no one cares about discussion

Posted

What a painful weekend to watch football. My only remaining fantasy football team takes a dump early, leaving me with just my King Of The Mountain roster, and they don't play until Sunday night. I made it another week. It's down to 6 of us for the 25K first place prize.

It was bad enough to not have anyone playing until Sunday night as I can't see anyone else's roster until my guys start playing. And then when I can see the live scoring, I'm starting in dead last place. And then I have to put myself through the pain of watching two hapless teams have a kickathon, with none of my three fantasy players doing anything through the first three quarters. Alas, I was saved by a breakaway run by James Conner and an even later rally by Brady. The other two guys above me that were also below the cutline also had Brady. In fact, we were the only three that had Brady. The guy that sat at the last spot above the cut line had Chris Godwin, which is who I had. So I had to somehow jump 3 people who all had similar players to me. Dire hopes almost made me quit watching. Turns out, I'm the only one with Brady to make it another week. Had Brady thrown a TD in overtime, all three of us would have advanced. I feel bad for those guys after knowing that OT gave them one more false hope to make it another week. Brady rallied so well, I actually ended up in 3rd place in points.

Rather shocked that Minshew was on a roster this week, but he killed it. Oh, in case I forget, horsefeathers Brady!

I should have known better than to have 2 Raiders on my team when it matters. Down 10 with Jacobs and Adams going. Opponent only projected to get about 24 more points. My Raiders duo average 41 points between them this season. Combine for 9.5 points. I'm losing by less than a 1/2 point with Aaron Jones and Tyler Higbee left to go for me vs Mike Evans and Zach Moss (Colts 1A RB with Jonathan Taylor out).

Went from being projected to win comfortably by 28 points to projected to lose by 0.28. Can never make this horsefeathering easy.

This crazy, unpredictable fantasy season continues. Like I said, I was down 10 with two guys that average 20+ each going Saturday night. Jacobs and Adams combined for 9.5. Sunday early, Aaron Jones got me 5.9 points. He averages 17-18 per game. So out of a projected 55 or 60 points, I got 15.

So, I needed either Tyler Higbee to have a career game or Mike Evans and Zach Moss to each completely crap the bed. Somehow, I got both! Higbee put up 30+! Evans had 1 catch, 5 yards until overtime last night, where he picked up 4 more points. So now I have a 29 point lead, but with the way this week has gone, I'm not conceding anything. The Chargers like to horsefeathers the bed when it matters (doesn't matter as much to them, as it matters to me, but still). And if Higbee can get 30, the Colts starting RB certainly can pull it off.

Haven't won the championship in about 10 years in this league (been in about 13-14) but have had about 6 top 3 finishes including 3 runner ups (also two 4th, two last place).

11-3 first place all season and going to lose to the 6th seed who went 6-8 because Jacobs and Aaron Jones did nothing.

Fournette put me down 43.

I have Ekeler and Chargers D… currently up 0.08

Edit: 2 sacks and a 4th down stop on Colts last drive means I don’t have to sweat out a stat correction!!

Looks like I have some favorable matchups for this week. It's going to be hard to pick someone other than Jared Goff against the Bears defense. Indoor stadium so weather will be good. I'm kind of liking Montgomery at RB since Detroit gave up more than 300 yards rushing last week. I've penciled in Jerry Jeudy against KC's atrocious secondary, but I have plenty of other options if I want to change.

RB's I have available this week besides Montgomery are:

Pollard or Elliott vs. Tenn

Jones or Dillon vs Minn

Williams or Swift vs Bears

Stevenson vs. Miami

Najee vs. Ravens

Kenneth Walker vs. Jets

Wilson or Mostert vs. NE

Gibson or Robinson vs. CLE

Foreman or Hubbard vs. Tampa

Singletary or Cook vs. Cinci

McKinnon vs. Denver

Akers vs. LAC

Murray vs. KC

WR's I have available this week:

Lockett vs. Jets

Higgins or Boyd vs. Buff

Devonta Smith vs. NO

Kirk or Jones or Jones Jr. vs. Houston

Cooper vs. WASH

Aiyuk vs. Raiders

Gabe Davis vs. Cinn

DJ Moore vs. TB

C Samuel or Dotson vs. Cle

Olave vs. Phily

C. Watson or Lazard vs. Minn

Evans vs. Car

JuJu vs. Den

Allen or Williams vs. Rams

Pittman vs. Giants

Meyers vs. Miami

Pickens or Johnson vs. Balt

London vs. Ari

Hopkins or Hollywood vs. Atl

Slayton vs. IND

Jeudy or Sutton vs. KC

QB's I still have besides Goff are:

Lawrence

Geno

D. Jones

Carr

Purdy

Mills

Dalton

M. Jones

Pickett

Heinicke

Mayfield

Darnold

Watson

Huntley

McCoy or McSorley

Minshew if Hurts isn't ready

Willis

Also have every TE not named Kelce

QB is so thin now, I have to try to stay away from playoff QB's at this point if I can.

There is one team that has managed their roster amazingly well. They still have Josh Allen, Mahomes and Hurts at QB. This was the team that used Minshew this past week. Also still has Rodgers, Watson or Purdy. Dude still has Justin Jefferson, Stefon Diggs and Kelce at WR. Gonna be a tough team to beat.

Goff, Montgomery, Jeudy is a good strategy for this week. I may go Swift against the Bears also to save Montgomery for a potential Vikings team that doesn't care Week 18.

Week 18, you have to figure out who has most incentive to perform well, while also not using anyone that you can likely use in the playoffs. Mainly guys who are likely coming back to the same team in 2023 and are young and if possible, playing a team with nothing to play for.

I'd save Lawrence for playoff round 1. Purdy for Playoff round 2. If it goes beyond that, not sure what you're going to do. LOL.

One decision to make for my championship week.

Josh Jacobs or Rhamondre Stevenson? Jacobs had been RB2 all season but got passed by McCaffery this week. He put up a dud last week, but now faces the #1 D in the league in the 49ers. Stevenson is RB8 this year, has a better matchup vs Miami, but also put up a dud last week. I also have Aaron Jones, who I figured I would start vs the Vikings. But I guess if anyone thinks Stevenson/Jacobs is the play, I could do that as well.

***And I just realized that I have had 3 top 10 RBs all year and can only start 2 of them in my league (has a RB/WR flex and a WR/TE flex, and 2 WR spots). IDK if I've started Stevenson more than 2-3x this year, as I also had Cordarrelle Patterson before trading him. I also had Rashaad Penny to start the season and just picked up Tyler Allgeier a couple weeks ago. So, I've been loaded at RB all year and can only play 2 of them.

Damien Harris could cut into Stevenson's playing time as he could be back. He's still listed as questionable, but he has logged some practices. Not saying that's a deal breaker, but bears monitoring.

I'm switching my WR from Jerry Jeudy to Deandre Hopkins. Hopkins has a tough matchup next week, so if I'm going to be able to use him, it will be this week. Colt McCoy should be back, and he seemed to enjoy targeting Hopkins. So, I'm now set with Goff, Montgomery and Hopkins. I may switch out Montgomery for Stevenson if Harris doesn't suit up.

Not to mess you up further, but I got two updates this afternoon. Hopkins is dealing with a knee issue, and McCoy has concussion symptoms so it will be David Blough starting this week for the Cardinals.

Thanks for the heads up. Wonder what happened to MCSorley? He was terrible for his receivers, so maybe Blougb will be better if Hopkins can go.

So a year ago I lucked out huge and made the finals of a million-to-first best-ball contest on Underdog fantasy, won 5k by taking 23rd, and decided to let it ride and enter a similar contest 150 times (at 25 bucks a pop) over the summer. This year its 470 teams making it to the final, first gets 2 mil, second gets a mil, third half a mil, and more swiftly falling off after that. I advanced slightly above average into the playoffs, but then advanced slightly less than average into the semis, which meant I only had two shots at the finals last week, and one of those teams had Hurts and Mariota at QB, so only one decent shot. I was on a boat in the Galapagos all week and missed the games and all news of them, but when I got reception on Wednesday, somehow the team with zero points at QB managed to beat 15 other line ups and make the finals. And now that Hurts seems to be unhurt again, I'm live! I don't think I'll be able to catch the games Sunday as I'll be en route to Quito for most of the day, but if some of these players blow up, I might make some cash. My team isn't a very unique line up comepared to the field, but the triple Hurts stack is fairly rare (getting AJ and Smith on the same team, specifically) so if Hurts explodes, I don't need as much to go right to do well/win.

Hurts/Mariota

Ekeler/Rhamondre/D'Onta Forman/Mattison/Pierce/CEH

AJ Brown/DeVonta Smith/Waddle/Jakobi Meyers/ Kendrick Bourne/Nico Collins/Laviska Shenault/Mooney

Kittle/Goedert

...just now read that Hurts is unlikely to play. Super deflating.

How is a team assembled in this format? And how many play?

I also need these details. Assuming it’s salary cap based. Would love to join next year. I need best ball formats in my life. Tough luck on Hurts.

You have a draft just like a season long draft with 11 other randos. It's .5 ppr format, no yardage bonuses. Each week 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE and one non-QB flex count for points. Draft is 18 rounds. For the first 14 weeks you are matched up against the teams you drafted with, and the top two advance. Then you get put with 9 other advacing teams for week 15, only the top team advances. Grouped with 15 others teams for week 16, only top team advances, and then its the final week, 17, with 469 others teams. You can do the math to figure out how many entries that is, total. This year, a million was also given to the team that scored the most points in the regular season. Draftkings runs a similar contest at 5 and 25 dollar entries, but they are full ppr with yandage bonuses, and the draft is 20 rounds long. There are also two different options for type of draft: fast or slow. Fast drafts give you about 20 seconds for your pick, while slow drafts allow 24 hours, until the season approaches, when allotment starts getting scaled down so the drafts can actually complete.

Posted
Now I want to know how you did 150 drafts. Even at 20 seconds/pick, that’s impressive.

...are you asking because I already waste a lot of time here? It was all spaced out over 4 months. The team that made the finals was drafted in early May.

Underdog even had a silly little promotion where if you could semi-prove (by posting to twitter) that you were doing cardio while drafting for 7 drafts, they would send you a t shirt and "something extra." The extra wound up being getting rake back on any subsequent cardio drafts you did. So I was getting paid something like 3 bucks an hour for rowing on my rowing machine and annoying my few twitter followers with screenshots of drafts they don't give a horsefeathers about.

Even if my team in the finals takes last (and that's nearly infinitely more possible than first, at this point) I'll still have enough in the account to max out again next year. Oh, and there is a fair amount of strategy for best-ball, specifically top-heavy best ball contests, that differ from season long with rosters or daily fantasy. I can go over some of it some other time, if anyone cares to go into it.

I made it to the final 4.

Currently in the championship, leading by 10 with our QBs left to play tomorrow, Burrow for me and Allen for my opponent. Winner gets 500.

Ekeler the last 2 weeks willed me to a title. Up 29 with Allen left for me and Diggs left for my opponent.

Good week to go against Kelce and Jefferson.

This was a 3 player keeper. I keeper. I kept Allen, St Brown, and the great Mike Thomas.

In my redraft league I would’ve been up 60 with my opponent having Burrow/Chase/McPherson and me having Najee, but I missed the playoffs because I went Herbert over Fields and missed the playoffs.

But I’m going to win my 6th straight season.

Well I would've smoked the guy I was set to play in the playoffs this week had the Patriots completed that final sack, and one of my friends who did make the playoffs won his matchup (which would have been different if I had also made it) on a late surge from Aaron Jones. The alternate universe where that sack is completed is so much different than this one.

I would've won my league if that Week 14 MNF sack had been completed.

I hate myself for keeping track of that.

Devante Adams' diving highlight reel catch, followed by a Jacobs TD 2 plays later (after a DPI) officially gave me a championship win!

Been in the league about 16 years, 1st championship in 12 years after 3 second or third place finishes in the last 6.

My opponent had Jalen Hurts all season, but with him out, he added Minshew and started him over Daniel Jones who outscored Minshew like 38 to 16. He also had both Lions RBs on his bench who out up over 22 points each.

Also pointing out, I survived taking Kyle Pitts late 3rd round. I really did well rounds 4-7 where I grabbed Amon Ra, Jacobs and Lamar Jackson and Aiyuk. Jackson was turned into Tee Higgins after my 11th round pick, Justin Fields became an elite player and made him expendable. Higgins turned into an elite option (when not leaving in the 1st quarter with hamstring injuries) when Chase went down. Rhamondre Stevenson in the 9th was a great pick too.

I started 1-3 then 2-4, then 3-5 before winning my last 9 en route to the championship.
