What the hell? lol If so, welcome Raisin!

Edit: I see this was posted in the CFB offseason thread right before this but I think its noteworthy enough news that will lead to more realignment that its worth its own thread, but mods can delete if they'd like

Just posted about this in the college football thread.

About a decade ago I went to a luncheon with Jackie Sherrill as the guest speaker. He called this realignment down to 4 conferences back then. The additional prediction he made was that the 4 super conferences would leave the NCAA and govern themselves.

Agreed, but I think it will just be 2 super conferences. This is a seismic move for college football, probably bigger than OU and Texas just because it gives us a second super conference

didnt Nate Silver make the argument like 5-10 years ago that the B1G was likley to become the more successful conference due to its massive schools and therefor following/

I think it's an evolution that is going to happen. When they do leave the NCAA they will probably realign again into geographic regions/leagues and have some type of 8 or 12 Team playoff system.

Where does this leave ND? lol, they may have their own league and just make the playoffs every year.

I'm sure ND will be included. They are a big enough draw.

Never forget that Notre Dame is the greedy ones, though, not the mega conferences just adding whatever schools they want for no reason other than to Hoover up more money.

I'm guessing this ends with whatever you call the SEC and B1G just taking the rest of the programs they want (Clemson, FSU, et al to SEC, Oregon, etc. to B1G) and walling themselves off from everybody else, and yes, ND will have to join one of them, presumably the latter as much as I hate that.

I would assume that the remainder of the PAC 12 and Big 12 have got to be talking merger of some sort....after the BIG and SEC pick some more of their scraps
