MLB has not been kind to managers named Joe of late. You could tell he was still bitter about how his time ended here in Chicago. Never accepted any blame and lacked the ability to be self-critical. I still remember that stupid stunt he pulled earlier this season where he walked an opposing hitter with the bases loaded and the move backfired in horrible fashion lol. Good riddance

Damn. I know they've underachieved during his time there and that they are on a 12 game losing streak but its still kind of surprising to me that he was fired.

Like almost everything the 2016 Cubs touched, his career has taken a nosedive

The Cubs almost did this last year. They were 9 over .500 right before losing 11 straight. They were 11 over .500 a few games earlier but I don’t know if he means 10 over immediately before losing 12 straight.

Yeah I think he means the latter.

Also the 1987 Brewers did this so the stat is wrong. The Brewers were 20-3 and then lost 12 in a row.

He meant that to be 10 games over .500 then lose 12 straight to be under .500. Like Brewers were still over .500 after that 12 game losing streak.

Well that’s a stupid stat then and misleading because that’s not what the tweet says

god damn can you imagine how lit it would be in here if the cubs started a season 20-3 lol. and then to lose 12 straight ... we'd lose at least 3 posters to suicide

Despite their flaws, either Maddon or Girardi would be a massive upgrade for the white sox.

It’s still ridiculous to me they hired TLR in the first place.

The Cubs destroyed the league for 2 1/2 months in 2016, went 5-15 and people* were freaking out.

*No judgement on anyone as, without going back and looking, it's entirely possible I was one of those people.

If Anaheim was smart, they'd get Matt Quatraro (current Rays bench coach). Although, they'll probably get some retread who can fail again.

Perhaps a trade for Torrey Lovullo

I openly mused to friends during that stretch that I might be a monster for raising my then-unborn son a Cubs fan (he couldn't give less of a crap about baseball or any sport as a spectator, so this probably won't end up being a thing), which qualifies as the most insane sports-fan overreaction of my entire life.

At least the experience of overreacting to that stretch and then going on to win the World Series taught us to not overreact to the ups and downs of a season right?

Look at this exchange between Ken Rosenthal and Joe Maddon:

You said it was liberating. Why? Usually managers are crushed when this happens.

It’s been kind of difficult overall. I’m into analytics, but not to the point where everybody wants to shove it down your throat. Real baseball people have felt somewhat impacted by all of this. You’re unable to just go to the ballpark and have some fun and play baseball. It’s too much controlled by front offices these days.

I actually talked to Perry about this. This isn’t anything new. I told him that. I said you just try to reduce the information you’re giving, try to be aware of who’s giving the information and really be aware of when it’s time to stay out of the way. In general the industry has gone too far in that direction and that’s part of the reason people aren’t into our game as much as they have been.

You want to manage?

Of course. Of course I want to manage. I’m really good at it.

Yeah, I don't know about that last part anymore...

Oh my....Maddon apparently got a mohawk haircut in order to help awaken the team, but got fired before he could show them lmao
