To give you an idea of how little Pace values 6th round draft picks, 2 of the 6th round picks from May's draft didn't even make the roster this year.

I actually don't think thats the right mindset around which to determine how someone values 6th round picks. Once they're picked it's bad to give them an entitlement roster spot.

But yea, in general I think we can say Pace doesn't value mid and late round picks. And he's willing to deal the 1st rounders for impact players too. He's just has a huge "get your guy" attitude. Even when it's a return specialist for 13 games for a middling team. *sigh*

There's a chance that our O-line is decent and we just had the misfortune of seeing Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett in two of the first three weeks?

The Browns D wasn't looking that great in week 1 and 2. Our Oline is bad still. Raiders are probably in the middle of Browns,Rams,Bengals, Lions. I think it might look bad Sunday.

5 man protection says otherwise

One thing I noticed when looking at snap counts is that the Bears used an average of 1.7 TE per play last week (99/58) compared to 1.1 against the Browns (51/45). That could also just be the heavy emphasis on the run game last week, but I'd like to think the line held up better because we used Max protect more (and...its the Lions)

Yea. Saw a good Twitter thread on how much Kmet made an impact blocking Sunday. Obviously we want him to be a receiver for how high of a pick he was, but they definitely adjusted personnel and scheme to give Fields time. Obviously not being Garrett/Clowney helps too.

Jakeem Grant is a really good returner (muffed punt last week notwithstanding). He'll probably reward the Bears with a TD at some point this year, which is nice. He can contribute some as a WR, but I think it would be more as a target for WR screens and jet sweeps. But the Bears only have gotten 10 touches for Goodwin and Byrd thru 4 week so far. I don't think he's worth trading a pick for and paying 1.5Mil for 13 games before he's a FA after the year, but it's only a 2023 6th.

In a roundabout way, this is may be fallout from the Montgomery injury. Probably gotta take Herbert off of kick returns now as he'll be the #2 RB with Monty out (then again, never took Patterson off KR last year). Webster probably is gone, which is good because he sucks.

I would imagine more 6th rounders make their teams' practice squad then the actual roster their rookie year, as Newsome and Graham did.

I honestly wondered that when the moves were made.

Looks like 27 6th rounders from the last draft have played in the NFL this year and 17 have not. I forgot the 6th is one of the rounds with all the extra comp picks. The previous year 31 have played in the NFL and 4 have not, but I don't feel like going back and seeing which started the year on the roster and which haven't played until this season.

I just thought those particular decisions were odd since we needed a KR and were super thin at DB and we cut a KR and DB. I guess they weren't ready yet.

That they made it onto the PS so I think the rest of the league agreed they weren't ready.

I was a bit surprised about Graham not being ready but Newsome was also hurt and missed time before the season so it's not shocking he's behind.

If we win this game, then there's a good chance we can stay in the playoff hunt thanks to our defense while we struggle to get consistent offense.

I have seen this season like 60000 times.

next you will try to claim that if the temperature hits the dew point, theres a good chance it will rain. you've seen it like 60000 times, right

I don’t care about “staying in the playoff hunt” one iota. I know what this team is and it’s not very good and that’s fine, because we have hope in a player who played very well last week

Everything I'm reading says he's most likely to return after the bye week.

Well maybe they just don't want to spend the extra cap to IR him lol

Normally I wouldn't care, but my fantasy league has free replacements before waivers/free agency for guys on IR. I can have the first crack at Damien Williams if they place him on IR. I know, no one cares about my horsefeathering fantasy team. LOL.

There's a separate thread to complain about your fantasy team no one cares about.

Did management tell him to do this or he’s gone? No reason to say Dalton is QB1 when healthy and then change your mind on Wednesday.

Not sure but he also spoke glowingly about how much he enjoyed not calling plays on Sunday and how it made him feel connected to all 3 phases of the game.

Given the difference between Monday and today, it seems pretty clear he was influenced to dramatically change his direction

The injured #1 QB is still our starter when healthy is coach speak. I don't see any reason to think Nagy had to be dragged kicking and screaming into making this decision. This was always the plan. Dalton was going to get some games, they were going to draft a guy early, depending on who that guy was is how many games Dalton would get. Fields was one of the few that could make this decision come earlier and once he was the guy it was only a matter of time.

All that hand wringing for nothing.

Matt Nagy is a really weird guy. Regardless, however we got here, I'm glad Fields is starting the next game and we're going to see how he does with adversity.

It's also going to be ok if he struggles a lot and even if he needs to sit after a string of bad games. But it's the right move and I'm glad its happening.
