Plus, on a MUCH less serious level, all that horsefeathers that people initially found endearing (like, "Rose don't dance!") turned out to be because he's a stone cold creep. Every time he opens his mouth he sounds like a dead-eyed, monotone, sociopathic lunatic, and I am baffled by the narrative that somehow he's this amazing, inspirational comeback story.

In 2016, Rose was involved in a federal civil lawsuit to assess whether he and two friends raped an unnamed former girlfriend in August 2013.[169] In the months before the alleged gang-rape, Rose's accuser, referred to as "Jane Doe" in court transcripts, testified that Rose made her uncomfortable by asking her to perform sexual acts for him or to involve other people in their sex life; he would sometimes get angry when she refused.[170] Doe also mentioned that on the day of the incident, she was drugged against her consent, and alternated in and out of consciousness.[171] During the trial, Rose expressed difficulty and uncertainty with the definition of the word "consent".[172] In October 2016, he was found not liable by an eight-member jury.[173] An appeal in 2018 was denied.[174]

I still can't believe that he admitted, in a rape trial with him as the defendant, that he could not define the word consent. That says everything you need to know about Rose.

For you Illini fans, do you think Ayo can be a key piece for the Bulls this season?

He won't be a starter for them. He's not the missing point guard or wing that they need. But I think he'll be a great rotation piece as long as he's here.

I don't know how Ayo is going to end up being on the Bulls, but damn I never realized his wingspan is so big compared to his height. It's one of those things you can't unsee in pictures after you notice it

He's great in transition. Solid defensively. His best role is probably as a scorer off the bench, though his 3 point shooting may or may not hold up (though he improved every year in college). He's a great competitor and he will work his butt off to improve his game however possible. Probably never an all-star, but should be a reliable rotation guy right away.

I'm not sure exactly where he'll fit on the team (he's not really a PG, not really a SG, does a lot of things well but nothing particularly spectacular except work ethic), but super happy for the guy, who is genuinely excited to be on the Bulls.

I worry about the smallish iso scoring guards coming into the league unless they are great shooters and/or have freakish athleticism. If they cant hit a shot or cant beat NBA defenders off the dribble those players are typically 11th or 12th men off the bench. That said, he was a well rounded player in college and even if he's not scoring a ton if he can guard well and push the ball in transition he's a rotation player.

So if we sign Ball and NO doesn't match, and make a few other moves, how does everyone feel about the team realistically having a ceiling of a second round playoff team?

I think they are at a point where they have 2 options:

1. burn it down and start over again as its unlikely that anyone they drafted is going to develop into a superstar. Maybe PWill has a shot still but its not terribly likely.

2. build a team that has everything but a superstar and hope one forces your way to Chicago. It helps that LaVine is starting to get that star recognition, face time with real superstars in Tokyo etc. And the way they've built the team, you'd have your PG, SG, C locked in with a decent versatile bench. You have decent roster assets but obviously missing that 1st round pick in 2023. It seems like a team that a SS could force their way to and turn them into a quasi contender.

Of course getting a superstar is by far the hardest part and while Chicago is not Sacramento or Cleveland, its a second tier market compared to the LAs and Miamis of the world. But it is viable enough to sell a superstar on if they were convinced it was a place they could win immediately.

Clearly they are going with option 2 here, which could lead to a lot more NBA mediocrity, but at least might have that 1-2 years where they are fun because we're good for the first time in awhile before it becomes clear that they're never going to be good enough.

There's also some chatter that the Lonzo deal could be a S&T three way deal with NO and CHA. There's some over the cap/under the cap nuance there that I haven't totally kept up with since the NBA underwent their last major CBA revisions. But sounds like signs point to operating over the cap. Biggest thing there is there may be lots of trade wheeling and dealing. Maybe a Lauri S&T. And having the MLE to use, but holding bird rights on several guys like Theis.

I'm just going to assume those players are Kawhi, Lowry and DeRozan

So I think this basically just allows them to keep all their QOs and other cap holds. And would have the MLE and the "major" trade chips would be Sato, Thad, and maybe White. Aminu as a cap match piece. So basically Thad and Satos partially guaranteed expirings for assets and then those assets + White + Aminu as filler for something good, but expensive. Bird rights on Thies, Temple, MLE (hopefully full, not taxpayer) , and minimum signings. Do it AKME!

(Lauri is stand in for Ball here)

Bulls looking to add DeRozan AND Lonzo?

Such an interesting thought. Apparently they can sign Lonzo and DeRozan to near max deals and still afford an extension for Lavine.

Team is still not winning the title, and it could have some major defensive problems with Lavine, Derozan and Vuc getting huge minutes, but it would probably be a second round playoff team. I don't think its touching Brooklyn, Milwaukee or possibly even Philly but it would make me a lot more interested in Bulls basketball.

Well Ball is unofficially officially a Bull

Sato, Temple and a 2nd-rounder going to NO in the deal apparently
