Kris Bryant homered again.

Anthony Rizzo is out of the lineup again with the 'we're definitely going to put him on the injured list in 3 weeks but will happily play shorthanded until then' back injury.

I predict that this is the game where the Cubs manage to finally score 6+ runs against the Pirates. We won't see them again until September, so it will be awhile if we can't do it today. Edited by UMFan83

I cannot even begin to explain what Javy Baez just did, but it resulted in a run and him standing on second base on what should've been a routine play.

No idea what the 1Bman was thinking either.

I don't think I would believe anyone telling me a team of players older than 6th grade would be tricked into doing a rundown between home and first

That has to be the worst play in history, right?

It’s certainly up there.

1Bman should have just gone to first once Javy stops. Then he shouldn’t throw the ball home and just tag Javy instead, though at that point he probably has no idea what’s going on and panics.

And not that you’d expect him to, but if the 2Bman is covering 1st after the 1Bman runs home, the run still doesn’t score.

Here. Just watch.

He's such a throwback. Everything you read about players like Cool Papa Bell, Ty Cobb, or Germany Schaefer being such unpredictable menaces on the basepaths you get with Javy. It's just magnificent.

I mean, there were 2 outs. The runner doesn’t matter at all. Just step on 1st.

This among the craziest things I've ever seen happen at a baseball game.

I especially love that he took the time to help the ump with a safe call before he ran to 1st.

I hadn't even thought about that, but yep. That would've almost been a Johnny Evers/Fred Merkle type of situation where a heads-up infielder nullifies a whole bunch of stuff that happened after.

Possibly the worst defensive play in MLB history by the 1B, as there are 2 outs! Step on first and the run doesn't count, even if Contreras somehow scores before you touch it!

Why didn't he just step on the bag? Why did he not tag him when he was right next to him? He could have tagged him several times before the run scored and there was 2 outs so it didn't even horsefeathering matter when he tagged him. He just had to tag him or the base before Javy touched the base. Literally the worst defensive play in MLB history.

My son's team allowed this to kind of happen in a game Monday (they are 11-12). Strike out reached 2nd base because they were too afraid of the guy stealing home if they threw it to first....with 2 outs. Oh and this happened 4 times in the game! His team struck out 20 guys in a 6 inning game.

the throwing the ball to the catcher part was the capper after a run of many, many bad decisions. the guy sliding headfirst into home is completely meaningless. he is one inch away from tagging baez and he instead flips it to the catcher.
