MLB has like three actually good team names. Most of them are stupid (they’ve just been around forever).

horsefeathers, if the Cubs didn’t exist and a 2021 team named themselves the Cubs, fans would have an anyeurism

I just don’t like the way it sounds. Guardians is a bit of a mouthful. Three syllables is too much for a team name.

I didn’t say they didn’t exist. I said they’re a mouthful.

I know you didn’t say they didn’t exist. I was just showing that nobody really complains about those names and I’m sure the same will eventually be true about Guardians.

As a Washington NFL fan I'm in the group to keep Washington Football Team name.

It is mildly fascinating to me how it's caught on. I think they'll eventually have another name, due to marketing, but there seems to be a groundswell for keeping that name. I ran into some fans (at an Enterprise) and we were just chatting, and they said that it just seemed pretty cool to say the "Football Team" despite the ups and mostly downs of the Snyder era. Sort of giving some swagger back to the fans, particularly if Redskins was definitely out.

All that said, I think they'll eventually pick a name for marketing purposes. At the very least, they'll pick a mascot, but I suspect they'll pick a new name. Too much money in it.

To be fair to OMC, he can counter with 'Wahoos' as a shortened version of the name. Nothing wrong with that one at all.

I wonder if Cleveland could find a way to shorten Guardians the way Oakland, Baltimore and Seattle did

Yes, but they have to spell it Geez
