NFL perpetual 2020 regular and postseason non Bears thread

Even dumber than the Packers FG was Romo's incredulity with Buffalo going for 2 when they did. They were going to need to convert at least 2 of those to win, you horsefeathering moron.

Romo was 100% right on that. You kick the PAT there to get you to a 2 score game. The odds are still miniscule at that point but by failing on the 2 point conversion there you kept it at a 3 score game which ended their chances completely.

No, that's not true. That's better for fans because it keeps drama in the game longer. But for the team who is trying to win the game, it's better for them to know ASAP.

That way they don't plan their strategy around a 2 point that was going to fail. If it's going to fail, you want time to plan a new strategy, no matter how much of a long shot that new strategy is.

Let's take a simpler example to illustrate. Let's say your team is down 15 and scores a TD with 5 minutes to go on the clock. Should they go for 1 or 2? Most people would say 1 and make it a 1 score game. But the problem is if you plan to score one more time, you get your TD with less than a minute left and miss the two, you just lose by two. There's no time left to make up for that missed 2 point conversion.

However, if you go for two now and miss, you have options. You can onside kick with 5 minutes left, you can take more risks with your offense the next time you get the ball, you can do the get the quick field goal trick and then onside kick.

Your best chance of winning by far is to just make the two point conversion. But if you're going to miss, you would rather do it now than later. If you do it now, you can occasionally win the game even missing the two. If you wait until the very end, you just lose.

So this is nuts

25-1 in his last 26 games played.

He'd probably be working on winning his 3rd straight championship in 3 seasons as a starter if Dee Ford had just lined up correctly in the 2018 AFC title game.

I think a shoot out between him and Rodgers in the SB would have been fun to watch.

Yes, separating it from my Packers hate, that game would have been a lot of fun.

This supports my, "try more 2 point conversions" theory of offense, so I support it. Always go for the extra points earlier than later! Is the NFL going to have to push the PAT backs another 5-10 yards to force the issue?

The current matchup is going to be fun, the Buccaneers aren't afraid to sling it. Bruce Arians vs Andy Reed might be the two most fun coaches around.

TB went conservative in the 2nd half even with the turnovers. They could do that vs GB, that won't work vs KC.

I doubt KC will go to man to man coverage at the end of a half.

Didn't they throw the picks by playing horsefeathers it, I'm going deep?

One of those was a terrible decision to throw a deep-ball bailout to avoid a sack. But the other INT was on a designed deep throw. They did run the ball quite a bit, even though they kept getting stuffed.

I think one was definitely on Brady, crappy throw which, of course, Amos intercepted, the other was on Evans. He had the drops for most of the game except for the TD.

I disagree that the one pick was on Evans. I thought so at first but on replay the pass was way high. Evans was barely able to get his fingertips on the ball and he's 6'5". No way he could've caught that one.

Think you're correct on that one.

When you think about it, if wasn't for our crappy Bears there's a good chance Rodgers may still be looking for his first SB.

I want a kick that hits the upright to be worth 4 points or something

Another 2 points for the crossbar. Aka the Parkey touchdown.

Daniel Jeremiah put out a top 50 for the draft the other day. While I don't think he is gospel, do know he is tapped into at least one org (Jets) and is generally very well regarded in general:

https://www.nfl.com/news/daniel-jeremiah-s-top-50-2021-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-1-0

Some surprises:

- Sewell is the *third* ranked OT

- Pitts at 3! I think he's a beast so was more pleasantly surprised than stunned

- Chase at 2!

- Wilson 4th and as his second ranked QB...I wasn't aware of the injury history including a shoulder injury

- Biiig on Toney, his 4th ranked WR and 20th overall

- Najee Harris is a monster and I kinda want the Jets to use 23 on him position be damned. He throws out Forte for a comp. He's the #2 RB behind Etienne

- I have almost no opinions on defense this year yet, would really like an outside pass rusher

I agree that Pitts is a beast. Najee Harris runs much more violently, ala Derrick Henry, than Forte ever did.

You didn't mention him, but I do not get the love for Trey Lance. He just seems like a guy.

Sewell 3rd ranked OT? That’s insanity. Chase at 2 if you’re just ranking based on pure overall talent, sure. Obviously no way he goes #2. I think Toney is gonna be good. Don’t get the Forte comp with Najee, and everyone has him ahead of Etienne at the moment. Wouldn’t be surprised if Javonte Williams ends up being the best back in this class. I don’t care much about defense in this draft either, but love Parsons, of course. Probably has the highest floor of any player in the draft along with HOF upside. Also like Zaven Collins in the back half of the first round.

Sewell is actually Jeremiah's 2nd ranked OT, behind Rashawn Slater.

I like the Najee/Forte comp but Najee is definitely more physical.

Lance is extremely risky to me. Picking him over Fields seems insane.

I know Lance has played far fewer games than Mahomes and Allen but I thought the same thing about those two and look how they turned out. I guess if you actually have a good coaching staff and system, it matters a lot less.

(For the record, I agree with you.)

I mean, I begrudgingly hold the fact he played for NDSU against him but whatevs

It’s that he seems to get by a lot on his athleticism against slow and weak competition.

Najee definitely more physical than Forte. I think the comp is more of a size/speed thing and the fact that Najee is a good receiver out of the backfield for that size. But he's NOT Forte as a receiver.

As for Trey Lance, I love him and completely disagree with you, LOL. I do think Fields over him is a no-brainer, but Lance has all the tools. Elite runner right now, not Lamar style, but pre-injury Cam Newton level. Big arm. I love his footwork most of the time, has inconsistencies like any other college QB. He has plays where he throws with tight window accuracy, anticipation, goes thru progressions.....admittedly few and far between, but they are there. He also seems to have the intangibles and small nuances. Great at carrying out playaction fakes and zone reads/RPOs. NDSU is basically the BAMA of FCS football, but it says a lot to me that he was trusted with that job as a 19-year old RS freshman last year. He went undefeated, with like 28 TDs and 0 INTs, and another 12 TDs rushing to go with 1000 yards.

And if guys like Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Justin Herbert have taught us anything, it's to trust the tools and get a guy that can develop them.
