Well, get this from Jon Heyman:

With MLB team valuations way up, more teams may come up for sale ….

There’s been speculation the next two teams to come up for sale may be the Orioles, though there is no confirmation on that, and White Sox. The Orioles-owning brothers John and Lou Angelos are suing each other, so a sale there might be a good idea.

There’s been a rumor that Jerry Reinsdorf might consider selling the White Sox. Though that’s unconfirmed, when I reached out to Reinsdorf by email, he responded, “Make me an offer?” I am not reading too much into that, though — while we both went to Northwestern, he knows I was in Medill for journalism.

I swear to God if JR sells the White Sox but keeps the Bulls.....

Similar to Arte Moreno, feels like this would be a really good thing from a labor perspective. Moreno and Reinsdorf both like to cosplay as small market guys, so while I'm under no illusion they'll find "good billionaires" to replace them, even just standard mid-market owners would be a big upgrade over those two.

Its long been speculated that the estate plan for the Reinsdorf post Jerry was selling to Sox to keep the Bulls. The possibility Jerry does it rather than selling it through the estate just forwards the timeline a little.

after all that, they're still going to win the division

What does this mean/refer to??

they've made up 5 games in less than a week and unfortunately they're probably the most talented team in that terrible division

Turns out a team that couldn't break .500 for 5 months is still about a .500 team, which isn't good enough to win even that division.

Going to be a really interesting offseason for them. They had the 6th highest payroll in the league this year which is pretty significant for the Sox. They tanked for 4 years to get a core that has given them 2 playoff wins in 3 years. Maybe TLR “retiring” helps spark something but in reality they need to shake up their core. Just about every key position player besides Abreu (who is 36) had a disappointing season.

It’s probably still salvageable but it won’t be a breeze for them. They tried to copy the Cubs tanking plan and so far have gotten little out of it

The contract to Moncada is pretty significant for his production ($17m ‘23, $24m ‘24, $5m buyout)

That was just about the fakest of fake rallies I've seen in awhile. Taking 2 out of 3 from the Guardians would have kept their chances afloat (barely), but a full on sweep when their season was on the line was just awful. And a bit hilarious, considering TLR likely cost them 2-4 wins over the course of the season due to his dumbfuckery.

I'm wondering if their offseason will use the Bulls' model of using injuries as an excuse, making no meaningful additions or subtractions, and bringing everyone back with the expectation that they'll all be healthy and productive next year.

That's 100% what's gonna happen. They should trade Hendriks and potentially even one of Giolito/Lynn and lick their wounds a bit for a year before coming back strong in '24. Instead they're just gonna re-sign Abreu, add another modest piece (a LH bat for OF?) and assume everything will be fine.

They really need to trade off some of their DH/1B guys they have playing out of position right now. They're 20 years behind the curve and stuck in the "horsefeathers defense" mode of team building.

rodon is leading mlb in pitcher war. whoops.

They probably should have at least given him a QO, eh? #-o

why the heck didn't they do that? Makes no sense

Sox go 0-6 in their critical 6 game homestand to fall from challenging for the division lead to mathematically eliminated.

Still alive in the Wild Card though! Only 7.5 games behind with 9 to play

This Sox run makes me appreciate the Cubs 2012-2020 era so much more. It's so easy to say we should have done more with the talent we had, but the Sox basically spent the same amount of time to put together this core and have 2 playoff wins to show for it (Cubs = 19).

Sox have to be the most disappointing team of 2022 and playing in a trash division lol

A big part of me wants to blame their troubles on their rotting corpse of a manager for five months.

Probably more to it than that, but still...
