In very bear like fashion, the Bears are 2-0 and I'm still unsure if the team or quarterback are any good.

Seriously though. Mitch was doing well, offense was moving the ball. There was no excuse for Nagy to pull back the throttle and try to hang on for a win, and it almost cost them a game they should have won easily. He’s been doing this horsefeathers this entire time and he doesn’t adapt

It’s so frustrating how obvious that second half went. The only surprise was the actual yardage gained on the yard at the end. If you have to pull back the throttle with Mitch, then play Foles. But the better option is keep pushing and don’t play scared.

I'm a little more optimistic about this team than I was before the season. I think we're seeing that Trubisky is a bottom-half starter but still a starter in the NFL, not a horrible black hole singlehandedly ruining the entire team. The TEs look functional. The offensive line isn't great but it doesn't look confused and hopeless all the time like last year. Nagy seems like he rewrote the scheme to fit the personnel, something he didn't want to do last year.

I didn't expect the secondary to be this much of a strength, but it is. And Mack actually got a sack today so I don't have to hear about how advanced metrics say it's OK that he's not getting sacks.

I really wish we had a real second running back to split carries with Montgomery. Using a pair of gimmick guys as RBs is going to get them hurt before the season ends.

At this point, I think we're more likely to be looking at playoff scenarios than top pick scenarios when we get to a few weeks to go.

The guy that got the money got 6 touches and was vanquished for the 2nd half. The guy that wants money had 3 catches and some questioning his effort on multiple plays including an interception.

Cohen hasn't been that impactful on a game in quite a while. That is going to be a big waste of money.

It's not even big money, so I don't think but could be a big waste.

I feel like the jump ball int was Robinsons fault. He is our #1, he should be hanging onto it all the way down

(It was Robinson on that play, wasn't it?)

The first was bad mitch

The first was Mitch throwing it as Robinson came out of his break. Great play by the CB. If anything, Robinson should shield the CB from getting in there, but I chalk it up to more of a good defensive play.

Wasn't that play into triple coverage?

I don't blame Robinson for the first since it was in the flats at in the teeth of the D, bad play design, D covered it well, bad choice as it was a bit of a force. No doubt Mitch wants to give Robinson chances to prove his salary but he should have gone elsewhere

The second, Robinson, if he is a top 10 WR and for all accounts known to be good at this particular play call, was either a comeback or jump ball. If it was a comeback, Mitch could have given more room to the backside and if it was a jump ball it was all Robinson. Either way, he had two hands on it and as a #1 you can't let the DB steal it from you.

Nah. It was zone. Trubisky threw it between the underneath LBs and thought he was throwing in front of the CB, but he read Robinson's break and beat him to the ball. Don't know that Trubisky looked at anyone else though.

I know it's not franchise-crippling by any means but what's the point of the Tarik Cohen extension if the Bears aren't going to use him at all?

wth are you talking about? they ran him inside a couple of times!

(I'm kidding, Nagy is absolutely puzzling sometimes

Just caught up with all the in game play discussion, and UMFan posted the exact same thing I was thinking. Are we really going to sit on this lead the entire second half? That is not the Andy Reid school of football thinking. Andy Reid likes to run up the score. He likes to go deep with big leads. He loves to go deep on first down. He likes keeping his defense off the field by being aggressive with his play calling.

I have no idea what Nagy is doing, or why we are still saying he is a branch from the Andy Reid coaching tree. Nagy clings to short yardage gadget plays that take too long to develop to be successful. There were less than 5 throws to the newly developed TE stable.

Mitch had one really good drive. The play where Montgomery got the touchdown was my favorite Mitch play of the day. He didn't seem to panic when he rolled out of the pocket. He broke into a run, but once the LB committed, Montgomery was all alone. Perfectly executed. I comment on this because other than that play and a few other decent throws, nothing else about his game impressed me once again. He still has happy feet, still doesn't set properly before throwing. Still not seeing the entire field and all of his throws wobble and are often times off target. The Miller drop in the endzone was a perfectly thrown ball, but there just aren't enough of those. Miller should have caught it, but that's a really tough catch for a WR. One missed play shouldn't have as much impact on the scoring as this team seems to deal with every single week.

fwiw - the perception of Mitch's performance is probably a lot higher if Miller didn't blow the catches on two well thrown balls. The one on the sideline in the fourth quarter changed things a lot. If that drive is kept alive, we don't punt from the 40 yd line and they don't have the ball to march 95 yards for the touchdown.

I think Nagy needs to come to the realization that this is *not* an elite defense anymore. I think that's the flaw in his logic that is leading to the conservative approach when in the lead.

Something changed this defense when it went from Fangio to Pagano. It's just not the same. And it's not for the better. How many snaps did Quinn play yesterday? Point being, if he's near 100% and playing nearly ever down, then what we saw out of the defense was the best we can hope for this season? Not good enough. And that's disappointing considering we have Hicks, Mack, Quinn, Smith, Fuller and Jackson as stud defensive players. It's kinda bizarre to see most of the league games in shootouts to see who can get to 40 points first, and then Bears games are battles to see who can get to 20 first. They just aren't playing the same kind of football as the rest of the league where you make due with your defense, but load up on big scoring plays every week. I love defense. But there are arguably 6 guys alone that are near the top of league at their position and they aren't getting sacks at a high enough pace. They did create 2/3 turnovers, but Jones had plenty of time to throw.

.

Andy also likes coaching great quarterbacks he trusts.

Nagy is coaching a middling QB he does not trust in the least.
