I've got about a dozen guys I'd be pumped about the Bears picking at 43/50, and that doesn't include any DL/Edge guys. Would like to see a DB with the first pick, then maybe a trade down with the second to try and pick up a couple extra mid round picks

As an observer, I really don't understand the Packers taking Love. Sure he has some talent, but he's a project QB. Rodgers' contract makes him hard to move on from until 2023 at the earliest. He could be cut before 2022 season but he would bring 17 million in dead money even while saving 22 million. So, Love has to sit at least 2 maybe 3 years. Will they know what they have then?

I just think using a 1st rounder and moving up at that is an incredible head-scratching move.

Yeah, I understand what they are trying to do. They did that with Rodgers when they had Favre but this is kind of a different situation. Love is far less polished than Rodgers was and sitting for 2 years with a QB that's not going to help him out isn't ideal. And it's not like they got a possible #1 overall pick, like Rodgers was, that had a freefall. He was the clear 4th best QB in this draft and they traded up for him when they have huge needs to get them to championship level.

I think this has more of a chance of ending like New England (where they eventually have to trade Love and are still looking for a future QB) than Kansas City (where they trade their starter and actually upgrade the position).

As Rodgers is very aware of (he even said so on a radio interview), this is the first time GB has drafted an offensive skill guy in the 1st round since they picked him. Thanks for all the help, fellas!

I probably would've picked Isaiah Simmons instead of Derrick Brown at 7 if it were up to me, but from what I've read of both Carolina couldn't go wrong either way. Brown will be a big help (pun intended).

Brown will be a beast up front for Carolina. Simmons is a freak, but I think a lot of DC would not know how to use him effectively. To get the best out of Simmons, he has to be utilized like a swiss army knife and a lot of NFL defenses aren't structured that way.

The problem with the Love pick is you have to be *very* right about him for it to pay off. The team is financially committed to Rodgers' for at least the next two years, so you need:

A) Love to be better in years 3-5 (plus maybe a little value as a backup QB in years 1-2) than any non-QB available would be over a full 5 years

and

B) For him him to be better by enough to feel good about weakening the team around Rodgers' for his last two years

Essentially, you need the dream scenario like the Packers got with Rodgers replacing Favre. If Love ends up being like the 12th best QB in the league, was it worth it? I'd lean no.

And that's before you get into the specific criticisms of Love. For instance Football Outsiders metrics have him as more of a mid-round caliber QB:

How one scouts Love aside, I think if Love does wind up the 12th best QB in the league (that's a huge if), its OBVIOUSLY worth it, and not even close. Put aside that the player you would have gotten instead of Love could bust, the number of wins that a 12th-best-QB-in-the-league is worth compared to literally any other position, elite talent or not, is not comparable. That said, Love is definitely a boom-bust prospect. His closest comp is Mahomes. His chances of being as good are obviously low, but that's his ceiling.

Rodgers isn't a bad guy. I think he has a right to be fairly PO'd at the Packers front office over the years (the comment about no first round offensive skill picks during Rodgers' tenure until now is telling) but he's well aware of the Farve-Rodgers / Rodgers-Love parallels, and I'm all but certain he's going to attempt to have a good relationship with the guy. The main reason that the Farve-Rodgers relationship soured was that Rodgers and the Packers knew that Rodgers was better than Farve, and Farve was Farve. Love isn't going to be better than Rodgers within the next few years. Now, if the Packers don't grab at least a few WRs with their next 4 picks, Rodgers is probably going to get vocal about his displeasure, and things might get ugly.

Would love to see Xavier McKinney fall to the Bears.

Definitely hoping they can trade down with on of their picks and add a 3rd or 4th rounder.

I know the Bears need to add speed on offense and he doesn’t provide that but I would love Michael Pittman.

This is going crazy well for Los Yets, didn't really expect either Becton or Mims to be around for their first two picks...Hennessy or Cushenberry next, please! Or Dillon the RB or OBJ or something cool for the offense. They can go defense after the 3rd, Adams will get them in the top ten again probably just being a beast

I love how Payton/Loomis and the Saints filled three need positions with guys who had slipped in the draft, and now are basically taking the next two days off.

This is basically the exact opposite of the Packers strategy. Ugh
