Lots of Dalton, Foles, Newton talk, but I'm not really crazy about trading assets for those guys. Definitely not at their salaries, any of those guys need to be restructured.

And the FA market dried up pretty quick. Really want nothing to do with Jameis Winston, who is the best FA QB left.

This is the crazy part of me talking, but I say let's just sign Blake Bortles and draft a QB with one of the first three picks. Yea he's been a bad QB, but I'm definitely at the point where I say let's just throw a few cheap bodies at that and focus whatever cap they have left on the other holes. Maybe he picked up a few things from McVay that will aid him in his next shot, and it's not like he ever lacked physical tools.

Still need a G, CB, S and a few depth spots (2 S, 1-2 ILB, OL, RB). Obviously you'll fill a couple depth spots in the draft. But they have a chance at having a dominant D again, perhaps even better than the 2018 version. Throw some extra supporting pieces to help. Whatever below average QB they run out there.

I agree that trading for Dalton/Foles/Newton is not a great idea. I'd rather sign a washed up "pray for Tannehill" type or just a half-competent backup that's younger than Chase AND keep my eye on the draft for a QB to fall. They're essentially going the game manager route at QB in terms of roster construction. What are the odds a QB prospect is available in the 2nd? I'd rather use those picks to fill other holes, but you can't squander a defense with this much talent by holding a horsefeathers QB like Mitch or signing the Jimmy Graham of QBs (Newton/Dalton/etc.)

This is basically what I expected from this offseason, which is also what I feared.

Pace is gonna triple-down on veterans, trade assets for a QB, and pray that we stay healthy enough for a 10-7 season to save his job. (Are we playing 17 games now? I think I heard that).

17 games in 2021 likely. But 10-6 and a first round playoff loss does seem to be a upside potential

What about Carr? He's a definite upgrade, the others seem like lateral moves, Mitch will give you whatever they will.

not sure there's anyone left that oakland would want over carr at this point, so i doubt they'll be trading him anymore.

They signed Mariota.

As a backup. He's clearly not an upgrade over Carr.

I'd be okay with Bortles. But, I still think they can hold out and only give up a 4th for one of Newton, Foles or Dalton. Winston still needs a job somewhere and the teams in need of a veteran are also drying up. They all have starter salaries and those teams will want to be rid of them as much as the Bears need to trade for one. That leaves both 2nd rounders and a 4th to improve the holes in the draft.

Trubisky doesn't scare defenses, so an upgrade is an absolute must.

Trading for Cam instead of waiting like three days for his release would be the Pace-iest thing Pace has ever done.

I don't like any of the QB options, but to me Dalton has the best chance of actually ending up a good move. He's been very good in the right situations in the past, and I imagine he will cost the least to acquire.

I'd be surprised if Dalton doesn't end up in NE.

Waiting for him to be released runs the risk of him just not coming.

yeah. on the other hand, there were those reports that indicated he was interested in coming to the bears a few months ago.

it would depend on how much they'd actually be giving up. if it was a nothing return, like a really late pick or something, it wouldn't really bother me.

That's what makes it such a Pace move IMO. Paying an extra $0.50 on the dollar to make completely sure you get your Plan A is his signature move.

Had he traded up and got Mahomes and Bears Mahomes is remotely close to KC Mahomes, Pace looks like a genius. Yes, some people would still say they could have stayed put to get their guy, and you’re giving up unnecessary assets. But If there’s a QB worth giving up assets for, give up whatever you have to. You just have to be right. Unfortunately I don’t really think Cam is that guy and Trubisky certainly wasn’t.

I feel like they should rename Soldier Field using this quote. It's Bear fandom in a nutshell.

Sadly, that is where we are. We will never have a QB we can fawn over. Well, we fawned over Cutler, but his time in Chicago was marred by mismanagement, coaching changes and no offensive line.

Josh McCown is only 41. I'd be okay with him, too. Pretty sure I could list several others that I'd prefer right now over Trubisky. And it seems that Pace is of the same frame of mind since he's kicking the tires on EVERYONE.

Wow, not in love with a 4th for Foles. I hope this includes some cap restructing where Jax takes on a bit more of the cap hit than they project to do as is.

I still hope they draft a guy too. And at this point, if they can get a late Rd pick for Trubisky, I'd do it.

Kwiatkowski, Jackson, Cohen, Howard, Wims (might be OK), Nichols, and Amos...all guys Pace has drafted in the 4th or later.

(Yes I realize how stupid this looks after I said I'd be OK trading a late pick for Cam, but I meant like a 7th or something and that would have been a lot more fun than this)

hope he's locked up at home watching lots and lots of film
