Will they drag this out until the winter meetings?

No way. This will be done between now and like the week after the WS (depending on the unwritten rules of announcing moves during the playoffs). They have so much other horsefeathers to do they can’t let this hang out there.

Looks like this off season is off to a fine start. Maybe we could just hire bozo the clown as our new manager :nono: You couldnt pick anyone worse than any of these three choices. If Theo wants that much control than he should just select himself as the new skipper. Sorry, but this buddy buddy crap is doomed to fail.

It's not going to be Loretta. They have to give him the courtesy of an interview - that's all this is.

Ibanez could be a sleeper candidate. He has a very good reputation and he's a helluva smart dude.

I like Ibanez, but I know the least about him in terms of managing philosophy. Is he a players' coach or more of a disciplinarian? I know he has a good reputation inside baseball.

Until someone has actually managed I think it’s hard to know where they come down on the hardass-players’ manager spectrum. Based on his rep I’d expect Ibanez to be somewhere in the middle, and to lean towards the sabermetric-friendly side of that scale.

Ross's family doesn't even think he's worth the job.

I kind of wonder if it might be Borzello.

I'm sure they probably feel an obligation to speak to anyone within the organization who expresses interest. But assuming the goal is to bring someone in who can light a fire under these guys, I question whether they'd seriously consider a candidate who was in a position to do that last season as a coach but didn't.

Yeah, put me in the they’re going to hire a new voice in the clubhouse category.

I think I'm kind of sold on Ross. He's buddies with these guys but also has no problem being a hardass when necessary. Feels like we've gotten so sloppy since 2016, maybe he's the right guy to tighten it up.

Also I think will work well with Theo. As much as it annoyed me when we had to take him with Lester, there was magic there and maybe there is some left.

The Cubs will interview Girardi, special assistant David Ross and first base coach Will Venable in the coming week, a team official said Friday. Mark Loretta – Maddon’s bench coach for one season, a longtime special assistant in the San Diego Padres’ front office and a former All-Star infielder – interviewed Thursday for the job.

Girardi, the only confirmed external candidate so far, will be prepared for this sit-down with president Theo Epstein, general manager Jed Hoyer and their staff. He grew up in Peoria, graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in industrial engineering and played for the Cubs in two different stints during his 15-year career as a big-league catcher.

That was fast (Loretta already interviewed for the job). I wonder if this interview with Girardi is more of a courtesy. I doubt he registers very high with Theo and Jed. Things ended badly for Girardi in NY and it doesn't feel like he's changed much.

He seems almost like the Joe Biden of candidates for next Cubs manager. I would've been happy with him taking over like 10-15 years ago, but times have changed and more progressive choices are available.

That seems a bit harsh to me given that Girardi is still only 54. He started out young, but he should be in his prime as a manager. Maybe one who can take something away from what got him in trouble in NY and be a better manager for it.

I don't think Girardi has learned anything. He's steeped in "old school" ideas. There is probably a very good reason he hasn't managed since 2017. I don't know why the Cubs would even interview him.

To appease the meatballs.

There's no reason that drill sergeant jackoff wannabe would come cheap. Cubs fans should riot if they stupidly shell out for a pricey manager for ANY horsefeathering reason. He should be automatically disqualified for that alone.
