Arenado extended 8/260. So much for 2020.

i don't think many people here had interest in arenado in free agency

It was a little tongue-in-cheek because of the early reports that the Cubs were more interested in Arenado than Harper.

I assumed that he wasn't Boras client, and it looks like he dumped him in 2015. Many Cubs fans think this gives us hope of extending Bryant, but is there any history of Boras arbitration-level guys extending instead of hitting free agency?

Strasburg, but if I remember correctly, it includes opt-outs that make the extension more of an arbitration buyout and not much else (other than a security blanket if injury/decline hit hard).

Yes. Strasburg leaps to mind, but I think there's been one or two other lower profile guys.

This anal fissure of an offseason is the gift that keeps on giving - Kimbrel about to sign with the Brewers according to some twitter rumors.

The Marlins released Dan Straily because reasons.

He's a replacement level player due to make 3.4 mil on a team going nowhere.

That's basically nothing and he was worth over 2 fWAR in 2017 (and a 4.3 bWAR in 2016). Maybe they tried trading him and found no takers, idk. Especially shocking considering they gave up Luis Castillo for him.

deGrom 5 year extension (he was controlled for 2 years yet including this year). He was already older, think this locks him up through age 35/36 season.

MLB Network is going to show Bad News Bears re-runs 24/7 next winter. There will be nothing to talk about

This didn't impact next winter at all.

deGrom didn't, sure, but if this is the new trend, we aren't going to see a ton of big name FA's most years

How could be have possibly made less money by not signing this deal?

Even if he got hurt.

Time to strike on a Hendricks extension?

The number of very good pitchers who hit arbitration and don't end up making 40+ million is...substantial. Pitching is fleeting, take the money.

So if Nola is the benchmark, what's a Hendricks extension look like?

$3M signing bonus, $9M in '20, $12 M in '21, $12 M in '22, $15M option in '23 with a $4M buyout?

I was pretty damn close.

He already mentioned Kevin Millar.

Great news. Surprising too, especially because Tatis was the guy with the most reasonable argument for holding him down. He's yet to even play at AAA.

I liked him a lot as a trade target this offseason, he’s been awful in 7 AAA innings this year (never pitched in MLB for the Phillies). He’d be a worthwhile add, imo. He’s cheap and has options and has been good the last few years.

The Phillies are getting Jay Bruce for basically nothing other than covering most of his salary.

For someone who's been an All-Star three times and has 300 career homers, Bruce is a fairly forgettable/meh player.
