I think I bat a righty before Murphy, Zobrist, Rizzo. I could totally see Counsell starting the game with a lefty reliever just for the top of the order and then going to his “starter.”

I’m glad this game is at noon. Get it over with. But I’m trying to understand why ESPN would want the rights to these tiebreaker games if they know they’re going to air them before the MNF time slot. Is the main reason they want these games to keep Fox and TBS from airing them during MNF?

ESPN has one of the WC games this year, maybe it was part of that deal that they got any Game 163 games this year. Also I’m guessing MLB dictates these start times more than the networks, since the losing team needs to travel and you would potentially have another team not knowing where they had to go. Like if the Rockies/Dodgers game was a regulr night game the loser wouldn’t wind up in Milwaukee or Chicago until like 6/7 in the morning on Tuesday.

As others have pointed out, these games probably would've been during the day anyway for travel considerations for the losing team.

I mean, the NL central game could be a night game and not really hurt with the travel. Cubs lose they don't travel, Brewers lose they only have to go back up to Milwaukee.

Their opponents probably need to know where they're going the next day prior to 10 PM.

Wow the Cubs going into the late innings with a comfortable lead only to make it very nerve wracking before pulling it out. Sounds like another Cubs team I know.

I think if either team gets to this point, the other will call off the dogs. Too risky blowing your relievers for the game on Tuesday. It is super critical that the Cubs get off to a strong start tomorrow. I we can get a nice lead, I don't think we see Hader or Jeffress.

How did Rod Beck get outs?

I think one of the most surprising facts I have encountered in life was learning a few years ago that Rod Beck was only 29 years old that season. Like I know it wouldn't make sense, but I think if you gave me no time to think, my first response would be he was 47.

That was not a 29 year old

Simple solution. Fly into Kenosha, and wait it out. Its halfway.

Pretty interesting and succinct breakdown of the pitching scenarios for all 4 teams playing today. Basically, Cubs are in the best situation by far. If Quintana is nails today not only would it be awesome to win this game, but there’s a good chance we face a team in the NLDS that has really abused their pitching to get there.

Maybe. But if the Rockies don’t use Freeland tomorrow, he is good for games 1-5 and Marquez is good for another one. The Dodgers can get Kershaw (big game struggles aside) for 1-5 and have a lot of other good pitching to pitch the other games. With the Brewers, none of their starters particularly scare me more than the others, they are all somewhere between adequate and pretty good.

Still no starter named for Brewers. I wonder if they do a bullpen day today, if they win Chacin goes Thursday if they lose he goes tomorrow

Brewers definitely gaining an advantage by not announcing their starter yet.

curious to see if it'll be the righty who looks just like Counsell, or the other righty who looks just like Counsell

3D chess.

Does Milwaukee even have an airport?

cubs have the "advantage" of having 4 starters who aren't that much different than each other. unlike everyone else, they shouldn't be a position where they have to throw some scrub out there for a playoff game.
