Quantify it with where teams end up compared to their regular season projections. Most usually end up within a few games of their projections.

Even if that were true, that still doesn’t mean that things evened out. You could be projected for 85 wins, play like a 95-win team, get “lucked out” of 10 wins and finish with 85 wins. Dramatic example? Yes, but still proves the point.
