Looks like Carl's having a run in with the fuzz.

What a game, I almost went to bed when it went to 3-0 but managed to check one more time and it was right when we loaded the bases. Just an awesome moment.

Was win probability lower last night or in the comeback against the Brewers in September 08?

Not sure why I didn't just look it up myself in the first place.

Last night got as low as 1.9%. 08 game got to 0.2%

Fun fact - I left this game early to beat the rush to the train and I found out good things were happening from hearing the crowd from the train platform. Saw on my phone when they tied it. Made it home in time to catch the extras on TV.

Apparently Davey Martinez and numerous people on the Nats message boards think that they should have won all three of these games. For last night, I get the sentiment, but Friday? That one hardly a "should've won" game.

They led 2-0 in the 6th and lost by a run, I'd be more surprised if they didn't feel that one got away.

That said, the Nationals as a franchise are getting really good at coulda, woulda, shoulda-ing against the Cubs, going back to the 4 gamer in 2016 when they blew a lead in like every game, and of course last year.

I was listening (also no cable) and almost turned it off to get some work done after they went down 3, but that was better than having a job.

get this, i was streaming it and right after kintzler gave up the single that made it 3-0 my wife (not knowing I was watching the game on my laptop) asked me to lay down on the couch with her and watch horsefeathers TOMB RAIDER. So, thinking I was going to get laid, I went for it. Not only did I not get laid, i had to watch tomb raider and I missed the bomb lmao

I dunno...if it was 2-0 in the 8th, ok...I get it. But 3 against the team with the best record in the NL is lot of time to think "oh we got this".

But I admit, it's a dumb quibble.

I twisted my ankle leaping around like a maniac hugging strangers in the bleachers.

Good horsefeathering lord. I've been lucky to see some all-time (regular season) classic endings in that park (Soriano slam & Lester bunt to name a couple), but that might have been right at the top.

I’m sure he did but watching the replay over again it doesn’t look like he touches 3rd base lol

he didnt touch home either it's fine

You can see his foot on home when he's down on the ground - I think it actually is a big deal if he doesn't touch the bases - there was a HR disallowed in a Braves post season game one year because of a missed base. You can see the 3rd base umpire wait until he rounds the bag before heading off the field, so he likely got 3rd too.

Yeah I saw that on a later reply. I can’t see his foot touching 3rd but I saw the 3B ump specifically looking at the bag to make sure it was touched

Is this something they would specifically call or do the mangers need to appeal?

eta:

"Since the ball was hit out of play (HR) it creates a “dead ball” situation. The umpire by rule cannot put the ball back into play until the pitcher is in contact with the pitching plate and all fielders other than the catcher are in fair territory.

Once the ball is put into play by the umpire, the defense can make an appeal, providing the appeal is legal. The pitcher may disengage the pitching plate (stepping back with the pivot foot) to make the appeal or the pitcher may appeal directly from the pitching plate by stepping toward the base and throwing the ball. The step must occur prior to the throw, just as in a “pick-off” move. "

So, either the Nationals missed it as a possible call or said horsefeathers it, but its completely plausible that Bote missed third.
