The Phillies are in town. Time for an It's Always Sunny theme.

 

The Cubs are coming off of a four-game sweep of the Mets. Mets fans once thought their team was on equal footing with the Cubs. We saw how that turned out. This series will somehow go the same way.

The Cubs won the last game thanks to some superb base running from Willson Contreras and Javy Baez. All it took was a glance across the diamond for the two Baseball Unicorns to mind meld and know exactly what to do to score a run.

Javy's base running prowess inspired me to write him a letter that I'd like to share with you all:

 

Dear Javy, I feel like I can call you Javy because you and me are so much alike. I would love to meet you some day, it would be great to have a catch. I know I can’t throw as fast as you, but I think you’d be impressed with my speed. I love your hair. You run fast. Did you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither. These are all things we can talk about and more. I know you have not been getting my letters because I know you would write back if you did. And I hope you write back this time, and we get to be good friends.

Things aren't going well for the Phillies. They were swept over the weekend and only scored 1 run the whole series -- on a Jake Arrieta homer. Jake wasn't very happy.

 

“We had bad defensive shifts,’’ Arrieta said. “We’re the worst in the league in shifts. ….It’s about as deflating as it gets. So we need to change that.’’

Kyle Hendricks will take the mound in the opener. With The Professor on the mound, Drinky Joe knows that he doesn't have much to worry about. Expect his preparation to go a lot like this:

Kyle is going to somehow shut the Phillies out. He'll face Zach Eflin. Eflin has an 8.10 ERA over his last three starts. This will be his last start, after the donging that's about to be inflicted upon him. That's only the beginning of the beat down awaiting the Phillies.

The SuperCubs are back. And they are somehow going to win 100 games. That means there's only one recourse for the Vaunted Brewers.

So I have one question... after the Cubs beat the Phillies will the post-game spread include cheese? I can totally see drinky Joe going off on some weird tangent on cheese with reporters after the game.

So Baez doesn't know the names of his own teammates so he probably doesn't know what the hell "cottage cheese" is either...

let's hope Russell doesn't have to miss too much time after getting banged up. The man is going to get into trouble if he's just sitting around during the games allowing his mind to wander.

I think its the best sitcom of all time. Seriously. Hell, the outtakes are better than any comedy on tv right now apart from Silicon Valley and Archer.
