According to Sharma it looks like Anthony Bass is likely going to get the last spot in the bullpen now that Grimm is bad.

Really? Anthony Bass is the guy they take? I think I'd prefer Eddie Butler for that last spot.

It was the Athletic so I won't post it all here but the long and short of it is that Butler sucks despite his stuff because of his lack of deception or command, and Bass might be a guy who just needs to change his pitch mix (more sliders and more high fastballs) to be successful.

I hate that less than two years after a World Series title you cynical bastards are ready to shove any of these guys off the train and pretend there was never anything good about these players. They are human, you know.

I prefer to remember the good times and celebrate the positive.

He had a hot wife.

That's true for most of them.

He had the perfect name to be a lights out closer. Unfortunately, that was the only thing he had to be a lights out closer. I wish him well!

The other thing that I found noteworthy from that column was the point that they had success doing this with Duensing last year. I don't have a particular fondness for Bass and didn't think Grimm was a big problem, but with Grimm gone and considering that I'm a pretty big Butler skeptic, I'm not opposed to giving the 8th bullpen spot to someone else the front office seems to like. I did kinda like the idea of Butler helping to give Montgomery's role more definition though.

That stinks to hear about Butler. I didn't really have much hope for him. He's not good and his stuff is very underwhelming. But his stuff used to be better. So I had a faint hope that we could unlock whatever is hiding in there, whether it was from Hickey changing something or it just naturally coming out with a move to the pen.

Whatever, it's the last spot in the pen. So I really don't care.

It's the last spot in the pen, so it doesn't matter much at all... but I'd have rather seen Grimm in the role than either of Butler or Bass. Grimm has at least displayed the ability to miss some bats, even if his control gets wonky at times.

But no matter which of the three it was, the odds are high Theo and Jed would have replaced them with a waiver wire claim in a month or two anyways. So whatever.

Wasn’t he in New Kids On The Block?

The best Grimm moment comes in a game the Cubs lost.

I also enjoyed his work in Game 4 of the 2015 NLDS. Struck out three to work around a Bryant error and keep the Cubs up 4-2.

I should've wrote that I hope Grimm joins a good team (outside the NL Central) and becomes a good reliever again. He was an important member of this new Cubs era where we expect them to win the division and make it to the playoffs every year.

He has dominant stuff and a great hook when his command is on. Seemed like a good guy and a good teammate. Maybe a little too sensitive on twitter.

Anyway, thanks for the good work these past few seasons Grimm. Good luck wherever you go. #Flagsflyforever

I think there will need to be a debate over how to define "contributed".

Grimm definitely contributed to the NLDS win in 2015.

So did Lackey. Probably contributed more to the 2015 NLDS win than the 2016 playoffs.

Grimm ends up in the ex-Cub outpost that is Kansas City

Yeah, KC really does like signing former Cubs players. I'll be rooting for him and Soler and Hammel. Almost forgot about him.

My very well mannered, therapy trained Labrador retriever basically attacked me because I guess my antics scared her that much.

I screamed loud enough... that the whole office knew the Cubs did something good. And someone suggested maybe it would be better if I was at bar down the street.

I was replying the Lackey post. I mostly like Grimm.
