So now that the Cubs finally signed Darvish, how does the rotation line up?

Lester

Darvish

Quintana

Hendricks

Chatwood

Is that what we most likely see? I imagine Joe will want to go R-L-R-L (or flipped) to start.

More than the sequence of the pitchers, I'm curious about how they'll manage usage. Chatwood is an extreme injury risk, Darvish a moderate injury risk and Lester is aging. I wonder if they go to a quasi-6 man rotation or if they play DL shenanigans during the season. Especially in the second half if they have built up a bit of lead and they want to work in time for Smyly and possibly Alzolay.

Don’t really care what the order is as long as Lester/Q don’t go back to back since they are most similar and let Lester be the opening day starter as the vet. This rotation is gonna kick ass.

DL shenanigans, just like the Dodgers. It's a smart strategy and the 10-day DL is perfect for this strategy.

I think Chatwood will surprise some of us, and might be more durable than we expect. Pitching at altitude takes a huge toll on anyone. Incorporating that curveball into his arsenal again and having a strong defense behind him can only help. I think he could be our 3rd best starter by the end of the year.

Yes, I would love to go to a 6-man rotation like they did in the second half of 2016.

There's an off day every week until the 3rd week of June, so they'll be halfway to a 6 man rotation on that alone until nearly the all-star break, plus the early months are more rainout prone.

That said, as founding member of the Start Montgomery PAC, I do not object one bit to him getting more innings.

I imagine that, even with perfect health from everyone, Montgomery starts 15 games or so. I'd guess the plan is 30 starts each for Quintana, Darvish, and Hendricks, 25 for Chatwood, and the full 32-33 for Lester (purely because he'll be a real crab ass if he doesnt get his 200 innings). I mainly wonder how they'll do it. Maybe open up the season with a 6 man rotation, cut down to 5 around Memorial day, and then bring it back in late August?

Except those first six days. Opening day starter will go on regular rest in his second start. Might be nice throw Monty a bone and let him start there.

It's Monday morning so excuse me if I am reading that wrong. Are you suggesting that Montgomery be the Opening Day starter?

In place of the opening day starter's second start on day 6

Oh, thank God. I am not a morning person if that wasn't already obvious.

Quintana will be #1 and Darvish #2.

Because everybody knows Yu always follows Q.

How on earth does this get 17 likes. People are just tossing them out like they have no meaning anymore...
