In an ideal world I prefer the trade route for acquiring the next Cubs starting pitcher, but if it were Darvish, how high would you be willing to go to get him? 5 years at 25 million per? 4 years at 28 per? 6 at 22? More? Not what you would ideally (and realistically) hope to sign him for but what would you absolutely not be willing to go beyond?

I'd love to learn what different people here have to say...

don't care as long as the AAV doesn't preclude us from signing harper and doesn't go beyond 6 years

Max amount for me would be 4/110 and 5/130. 6 years is a no go. As long as the AAV isn’t crazy though that’s all I care about and it not screwing us in other things (which I don’t think it will, this FO has the foresight).

Agreed.

Darvish will be singing Eddie Vedder tunes and wearing a Cubs hat tomorrow. I can feel it. Edited by CubinNY

Durvish will be watching Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes and laughing at all the Jeff Garlin scenes tomorrow. I can feel it.

So much for the Japanese article saying that this would be decided by Christmas.

I thought it said it wouldn’t be

It did. There was confusion with translations early on.

Minnesota is still trying to schedule a meeting with him. With the way FA is looking, January is going to be busier than December always has been.

If years and money were the same, would you prefer Darvish or a return of Jake?

This question/prosposal has been brought up in different forms before in here but Darvish in that scenario I’d say 95% of the people who’ve voiced their opinion would pick Darvish (and 100% of the smart poster on here would pick him). I think Darvish is the clear option in just about any scenario short of Jake’s market turning in to a 1 year deal or Darvish approaching $30 million in aav (or whatever the FO has determined is the AAV they won’t touch or if they go to it, it affects future plans).

Oh baby Yu, Yu got what I need.

The only reason Jake is in any dicussion is because he would get less years and money than Darvish. If the years and money are the same, either Jake's agent needs a big raise or Yu's agent needs to be fired.

Easily Darvish.

And when you add in the likely draft pick from Jake signing elsewhere, it’s even more of a no brainer.
