Joel Sherman threw out 6/120 for Darvish with $30 mil the first 2 years, $20 mil the next 2 and $10 mil in the final 2 years with opt outs in years 2 and 4. Yes, please

I was thinking 5/100 with 25M the first 2 and an opt out after that would be real good. The odds of someone else stepping up to offer him 25M AAV or a 6th year seem unlikely at this point. An opt out after 2 makes sure he's part of the pitch to the class of 2019/Harper, and if he opts out you have a built in LT reprieve if you have an internal candidate of quality.

So what are we looking at here? He was supposedly down to 6 teams.....Yankees, Cubs, Twins, Astros, Rangers, and someone else. Many who think its the Dodgers.....

Well, the Rangers have came out and said they don't see themselves making a splashy move at this stage.

The Astros traded for Cole. They're out.

The Yankees have 21-22 mill to spend up against the LT. But, do they want to go into the year with Andujar at 3B or Torreyes at 2B? Maybe even Gleyber? With the glut of OFers on the market, why would a team pay anything for Ellsbury? Can they free up another 4-5 mill? Sure. But, that's it, unless they want to trade Robertson. And again, the 21-22 mill needs to account for callups and in season moves too.......

The Twins? Sure, they've got a need and money ton spend.

Cubs? I think we've answered this.

Dodgers? No chance they can stay under the LT. If its the Cards, I'd say they've got other holes to fill too and may look towards a slightly less expensive option.

So, it looks to me that we're in a stalemate with the damn Twins.

And Yu probably prefers New York, but they can't find the money to get it done.

Yeah, if you were to try to craft a narrative, Darvish not only probably doesn't want to go to Minnesota, but they don't have the financial might to push a Cubs offer higher, so he's waiting for the Yankees to somehow gain the flexibility to either take their offer or use it as leverage against the Cubs.

If that were true the cascading effect would probably mean very bad news for Arrieta, and maybe make him the guy considering an in-season hold out that Passan mentioned.

funny, but charles the cat said the same thing the other day (cubs vs twins)

My sources are common sense.

And that dude is pretty high on my "hate follow" list at this point. He's gotta have a punchable horsefeathering face.

I agree, its gotta be Jake. The only other possibilities to me are Holland or Moustakas. And it'd be hard to see a 3B sit out, waiting for an injury to happen.

I think the free agent is Logan Morrison based on other things I have read about him.

Not going to go to the Brewer website but I guarantee someone is predicting they are making the offer so Theo is forced to make an outrageous rise in his contract offer.

I know it's been said over and over but this really does feel like the week-10 days where a bunch of moves happen.

Or maybe no free agent ever signs a contract again. Best to get our fill of Bryce Harper this year before he's out of baseball or in Japan.

It got retweeted in my timeline and it's one of the Barstool guys (I know) who has broken Yankees stuff before and he says he's hearing Ellsbury to the Brewers is coming. You would think that clears the way for the Yankees to go get Darvish. Would also make sense why the Brewers have sudden interest in Darvish to push the Yankees to give up a better prospect (and/or eat some or more of Ellsbury deal) and also jive with the guy on the Brewer message board saying there's a sequence of moves lined up for them based on one happening first (Ellsbury needs to waive his NTC).

Hmm, but why would they have any interest at all in Ellsbury? He’ll be a 35-year-old CF in September, which doesn’t make sense for an add on a rebuilding team (at least that’s how they should be viewing themselves), and he’s been super blah the last 3 years anyway.

I’d view him as a 1-1.5 WAR CF and one with no future on my team...but he’s signed through 2020 (team option and $5 million buyout in 2021). If I were the Brewers, he’d better be super cheap, and ideally bringing a prospect back on top of that. Say he were a free agent... anything over like 2 years, $16 million would seem like an overpay.

And why on earth would Ellsbury waive his NTC to go to horsefeathers Milwaukee?

He would rather start on a mediocre/garbage team than be a 5th Outfielder / pitch runner?

Is there something to be said for the Brewers trying to keep Darvish from signing with the Cubs for any kind of reasonable contract?

Well also according to the Barstool guys, Darvish has been a Cub for a month so we're good there.
