After Sherzer was scratched for game 2, I was expecting a split in DC. Being up 2-0 would be glorious, but I'm feeling OK that we split on the road.

It's a shame Wilson hasn't been the player the Cubs thought they were getting. That spot against Murphy is exactly why they traded for him. And Edwards HAS to stay ahead of hitters to be successful. His failures almost always happen when he starts missing the zone and gets behind. Unfortunately, he picked the worst horsefeathers time to lose it with Harper at the plate.

I'm definitely bummed about tonight's swift kick in the pills, but it's hard to get REALLY upset about it anymore. I saw the Cubs win a flipping WS last November. THE CUBS WON A WORLD SERIES AND I SAW IT WITH MY OWN EYES AND THEN I CRIED FOR 24 HOURS STRAIGHT. Nobody can take that away. Not even the beautiful Bryce Harper can take that away.

Let's get the next two and then hit some dongs off of Kershaw again.

That's fine if you want him benched but come on, dude was World Series MVP he's not a piece of horsefeathers, just busted down and old

I mean he's the only bad player on this team

That doesn't mean he's a piece of horsefeathers. They probably don't win the World Series last year without him. He's just old and bad now

Let's not kid ourselves. Was our first World Series championship in a century worth enduring his wretched walk-up songs for two years?

I don't think I've ever handled a heartbreaking playoff loss this well.

Same. I'm trying to think of a more heartbreaking playoff loss since 2003. Maybe Game 3 against the Giants but we were up 2-0 coming into the game.

So the most heartbreaking playoff loss in 14 years and I'm like...fine

Counterpoint: this is me typing that last post

They all hurt. Game 3 of the world series where a hit wins it and we end up losing 1-0 hurt like hell.

Let's not forget that mojo also broke Willson earlier in the year.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

Guys, I have been to the last loss of the Cubs season each of the last two seasons. I'm going Monday, and I'm going to the first home game of the World Series. None of those are going to be elimination games, so we're good.

This team has never won a World Series without losing at least 1 game in every round of the playoffs. So this was just semantics

Had a bad eighth inning pitching in one game of every round also - Game 3 vs SF, Game 1 vs LA and Game 7.

If I'm mad about anything I'm mad that CJ picked the absolute worst time to throw a hanging curve ball. One of the top 5 hitters in baseball who is itching to put the team on his back with the season nearly on the line on a 3-1 count so you know he's going to be swinging hard at anything close to a strike.

I mean sometimes you just don't execute but damn was that a really poor time to not execute.

Then again I remember that garbage breaking pitch Blanton threw to Montero last year that Miggy missed on and then he threw another hanger on the next pitch. It happens but I wish it didn't happen to Carl today

Blowing a late lead sucks. Especially when it was a questionable call leaving CJ in to face Harper.

But no. Not worried. This team came back from 2-1 and 3-1 last year.

CJ back to back days, despite not really being “that bad” today, being way worse on the 2nd day seems to be a real thing. Obviously it’s the playoffs so figure it out and man up but may want to try and keep him only going 1 on 1 off as much as possible

on some level it's just recency bias. Dbacks are up 2-0 right now, if they win they're going home 1-1 too but it's like "oh man they're looking good now," and we're going home 1-1 and i'm like ugh gonna lose in 5.

on the other hand it sucks to be playing a superior-ish team on the road and be in position to go up 2-0 and then blow it with a righty pitching to a lefty and a lefty pitching to a righty.

Edwards had a sub-.600 OPS against on 0 days rest, only threw 11 pitches yesterday, and had 5 days rest prior to last night. I don't think that really played a part or is a huge concern.

Why did we ever take Wade Davis out of the 8th inning setup role when it worked out so well for us last year

Hell yeah Rizzo you got me fired up

I hope everyone starts taking shots at garbage players in their interviews.

"If giving up two home runs to Billy Hamilton last year didn't shake our confidence, this sure as hell won't"

“Listen we lost like a dozen games to the vaunted Cardinals and Brewers this year. It’s part of the journey.”

I thought Cubs in 4 to be honest. A playoff loss, at the time it happens especially, sucks but figured we’d lose 1 for sure. So here we are, win at home and give the home fans in Wrigley a fun celebration since they were goons and clinched the division on the road.

Yes but not what I'd consider heartbreaking. I was referring to situations where the game was somewhat in hand before blowing it late, or a fake rally late fails etc. no doubt games 1 and 4 of the World Series sucked and were more meaningful losses but I was able to make peace with both games well before each of them ended

guys, give mojo a bit of a break. guess what i did NOT do during innings 7-8 last night? perhaps coincidence but maybe not

i think the loss was more heartbreaking because the friends of the lady friend at the bar were super annoying and i just wanted the cubs to make me happy to make them less annoying. after the 8th inning i didn't say anything for about 30 min but then drank another beer which cheered me up and i was over it.

i can't wait for tomorrow afternoon. wrigley will be rocking and i have full confidence in Q. it's going to be a really fun Monday afternoon and kudos for ECU that they timed fall break for M and T so i don't even have to teach tomorrow night *stars aligning*
