So Adam Jahns of the Sun-Times and Adam Hoge of WGN did an AMA on reddit today. They had some interesting answers, so thought I'd summarize them here. They seem to go a little further out on the limb than they would in articles. Jahns definitely likes him some Jackson and Floyd. Both think there's a non-zero chance Trubisky opens the season as the starter.

When will Trubisky first start?

Hoge: Reasonable answer: by Week 5. Although I'm not ready to rule out Week 1.

Hoge: (elsewhere) I don't buy the argument that the tough schedule is why Glennon is the starter. When Mitch is ready, he'll play. I think this team is good enough to avoid an 0-4 start, so conceding the first four games just to protect the rookie doesn't make sense to me.

If Glennon and Trubisky play equally well this week:

Jahns: Similar performances this week? Then Trubisky wins the job. Has to. Glennon is playing for his starting spot. He has to realize that.

Bold Predictions:

Jahns: Hmm. Eddie Jackson will make the Pro Bowl.

Hoge: Goldman and Floyd will both be Pro Bowlers (or at least alternates).

Hoge: I think the biggest development (and this really isn't getting enough attention) is the general improvement of the defense. Eddie Goldman and Leonard Floyd figure to make a big difference and they represent the type of young talent the unit needs.

Floyd ceiling:

Jahns: Ceiling? Von Miller. Khalil Mack.

Floyd sack prediction:

Jahns: 12.5.

Record predictions:

Jahns: 7-9. That will be my prediction.

Jahns (elsewhere): I'm going with 7-9. Book it. Bet it.

Biggest surprise player:

Jahns: Other than the rookies? .... Bullard, if he's healthy, will be a starter. He's been good this preseason. He bulked up and better understands what's expected of him by Fangio.

Jahns: (elsewhere) I feel like no one is talking about Cam Meredith. He's being overlooked. I don't know about a Pro Bowler, but he will look good on any fantasy team.

Next contract extension:

Hoge: Akiem Hicks and Pat O'Donnell are the next up for extension, IMO.

ILB time split:

Jahns: I think there will definitely be a rotation between them. Fangio likes Kwiatkoski on third downs because of his pass rushing and coverage ability. Trevathan still is working his way back from his knee injury. It's gone surprisingly fast. But it will take some time for him to get where he wants to be as a player, if he ever does.

Coaching candidates if Fox gets fired:

I think it's way too early to have this conversation, especially because I think the Bears are going to be improved this year. That said, given Pace's ties to New Orleans, I always keep an eye on what Sean Payton is doing down there.

Pace's job security:

Hoge: Pace is held in high regard by ownership right now. And why wouldn't he? His drafting has been impressive so far.

What would you rather fight? 100 Cohen-sized Hicks or one Hicks-sized Cohen?

Hoge: A Hicks-sized Cohen would immediately be the best player in the history of football.

lol fox

That's how he manages games sometimes, so this checks out actually.

i'll give them that at least they seem to be flexible with the way trubisky is forcing the issue (and glennon)

fox is just such a damn abrasive and evasive weirdo with the way he deals with media, which is kind of a shame given that everyone who actually interacts with him seems to love him.

i don't care that much. it's just annoying to hear him never answer anything with any clarity.

I'm starting to think there's a real possibility of starting Week 1. Good stuff, sucks for Glennon but whatever he can take his money and move on next year.

If he wasn't playing so poorly, this would be an issue. He has nobody to blame but himself.

Julian Edelman blew his knee out. I'm sure the Patriots will find some unknown Division 3 player to show up and be an all pro

this was my (and, i assume, most of america's) first thought, too.

Hogan or Amendola will somehow stay healthy for the first time ever and replicate or exceed his production exactly

Speaking of Cohen, if anyone's not read this, its a puff piece, but its damn good. He's probably going to be my favorite player.

Dude's got a great personality and is very confident in himself. He's gonna be a media darling for sure.

He caught enough buzz in NC that I've read/heard a decent bit on him. I have loved everything I've consumed. Seems like an awesome guy - happy yall (read: Bears) got him.

ugh

lots of football left. still hoping for some pick sixes out of this clown.

You have to realize that best case scenario is glennon starts bears lose a lot and fox gets replaced with good coach.
