As the guy who loathed the general thought about of even taking Trubisky.....

How can ANYONE not be stoked by that? One preseason game? Yeah, so? It went about as well(hell, better) than damn near anyone's wildest expectations. The guy looks the part. Its OK to say that. He's got lots of work to do obviously. But, I don't care if its one game, against backups....Still much easier to see this panning out. He's got the tools. It isn't about this year. But, he's going to get plenty of time under center in 2017. Forget numbers, the eye test alone.....He stood out. I couldn't be happier to have been so wrong.

Pace saved his job with this draft. Cohen is going to be fun. Shaheen will be a force soon and Jackson is going to be a starter....And we got a franchise QB.

Maybe they don't win but 4-5 games in 2017.....But, this team is going to be fun to watch.

It's funny. A day or two ago, I noticed a post you made a little after the draft where you didn't expect anyone from the draft to play much in 2017 (or something to that effect). I wasn't going to reply to it to gotcha you or anything, it just read kind of funny with the way the story seems to be going on those guys. Trubisky is probably going to start at some point, maybe by the bye (if not sooner), and Shaheen, Cohen, and Jackson are all almost certain to see a ton of snaps.

Yeah this was a common thought. Lawrence Holmes (who is far and away my favorite sports radio personality and one of the few I can even stand) went on and on about how arrogant this draft class is. None of these guys is going to contribute at all! They've got needs and they took luxuries, etc.

It's one preseason game and some camp so nothing is proven yet, but I think they were in dire need of playmakers, and Pace took some guys who could be that. Hopefully these guys will be awesome, Floyd/Bullard work out well, and Pace has backers everywhere you look.

And, yeah, it's not that he just played "well." He dominated the 2nd and 3rd stringers like someone that much better than them would have to. Plenty of guys go in there against those guys and don't look nearly as good (recent examples - Jared Goff looked like absolute ass last year and Paxton Lynch the other night was just OK). It was like he was playing a video game in rookie mode. And remember, he was playing with 2nd and 3rd stringers too (not just against is what I mean). It doesn't mean he's great, but it's what a very good QB is supposed to look like against that level of competition.

I do believe that if Trubisky shows well in the rest of the preseason that there is no reason for Glennon to start. Either Trubisky is your guy or he isn't, so why not give him as many starts to find that out as possible?

the excitable irrational side of me wants him to start from game 1 and thinks we could be surprisingly good if he hits with this defense (with the one shitty thing being fox keeps his job if that happens)

the boring conservative side of me wants glennon to play OK the rest of preseason, then play OK enough to lose the job after trubisky gets a few weeks (maybe 4-5) to watch and then maybe glennon has enough value to get traded for a mid round pick.

who am i kidding, start him week 1

I don't see any value in giving Glennon starts. This season isn't about wins. Same with Kizer vs Osweiler in Cleveland. Just start Kizer, see if he's good, and if he sucks, draft a different QB next year.

my inclination to give glennon starts would only be to give trubisky a bit more nfl practice time and a minimal opportunity to watch a bit while also letting glennon serve as the sacrificial lamb against the hardest part of our schedule.

but, again, that's not what i really want to happen. trubisky starting week 1 makes the season much more interesting and fun, so hopefully he can do it on merit (and not just fox trying to save his job).

Only 3 throws over 15 yards?

Let's get excited for the next Alex Smith guys!

Efficient guy, who doesn't turn the ball over and has won 60 of his last 85 starts.....now give him a better arm and more bulk with similar (at worst) athletic ability. I'll take it.

Trubisky is much more Russell Wilson than Alex Smith.

I was being sarcastic with that post as I'll take a Alex Smith. Alex Smith is underrated IMO. I mean, I still love Jay and some of his throws were just insane because of his arm, but give me a QB that is super accurate. It's going to be fun watching Trubisky. Definitely looked the part even though it's just the preseason.

Get this soft tossing dunk and dunk Alex smith lookin ass outta here

you have a lot of the same opinions as me on this

would you rather trubisky plays, plays well, defense plays well and we pull off 8-8 or 9-7 or something, enough to be entertaining and fun but also save fox's job, or maybe win 4 fewer games to get fox fired?

(i didn't say a wildest dreams best case of something like 10+ wins and playoffs because that answer is pretty obvious no matter how much we hate fox)

so trubisky and rodgers are both listed at 6'2"

trubisky has looked a little short to me (not drew brees short), but I wonder if that's because of how much i've seen him standing next to mike glennon (and how tall jay was), but i've never really thought rodgers looked especially short. i wonder if trubisky is being listed more generously than rodgers or if my perception is just off.

Yeah, I thought Jackson was probably the only guy that'd contribute. I really liked Shaheen, but I thought he was a slight reach. Honestly thought Cohen could have been had much later....I think I was just disappointed with the amount of picks we wound up with and started trying to nitpick, pile on to my already incorrect thinking.....Doubling down on insanity usually doesn't work. Shocker, didn't with that either lol.

Its fun that these guys look like true contributors going forward. I'm honestly surprised at them being this advanced. Pace looks like he knows his horsefeathers right now.

Rambling a bit, but I want to walk a fine line this year.....One that somehow gets Fox ousted, but shows we're fun and on the right track. Not even sure its achievable, but that's my goal somehow. Unless Trubisky just comes in and puts them in the playoffs lol.

And as far as my original argument, the "wait for 2018 for a QB" thing....Man, I really like some of that class. But, there are too many teams that are actively trying to suck out loud. We likely wouldn't have wound up in the Darnold sweepstakes at all and even the next 2 guys, whoever out of that group that separates.....

So, if the Bears do ride Glennon for a while and wind up with a top 5 pick.....They can recoup all sorts of picks and do it with a QB already in place, which some of you guys said last year anyway.

Well, Mayock had said before the combine that Trubisky was going to measure out shorter than his supposed height. But, he didn't. Without ever having given it a thought, I DID think Rodgers was taller than that. Body type? No idea, but I'd have been thinking the same as you.

Remember when Money Mitch showed up game 1 and the Bears won the Super Bowl. This is going to be too fun. I want no talk of 8-8. 10 wins minimum.

I am team FINELINE but I will bail in a heartbeat if trubisky gets the job and plays well.
