Oh and I'm starting to think 7+ wins. Nothing crazy but that defense is looking really good and the offense has lots of pieces too. I think Trubisky starts within the first 4-6 games and has a pretty good rookie season. Not saying he'll light the world on fire, but in my world he'll be good enough to get us just about all 7 of those wins even with Glennon starting for some of those tough early season games.

A lot of that is assuming an improved secondary, which includes Eddie Jackson. I'm on the kool aid right now but I'm good with taking the lumps. Defense looked real good.

The running game will be elite. Glennon should do ok just based on the fact he's going to be seeing a lot of safeties in the box.

That last one is the most honest and direct thing he's ever said.

Also, Kyle Fuller had a really really good game.

This was nice to see, Jahns thinks Jackson is close to locking up the starting FS spot.

...Jackson is on the verge of locking up the starting spot next to veteran Quintin Demps. It has seemingly become Jackson’s job to lose.

“This defense is very, very hard,” Demps said. “There is a lot going on in this defense. But he hasn’t blown many coverages. He’s hasn’t had any [mental errors], and that’s impressive as a rookie to come in a system like this and be on point.”

This is another pick I loved. I really didn't want Jamal Adams. Give me a center fielder type who's actually produced a bunch of turnovers. Jackson's looked good to my untrained eye, but there are so many plays you don't see the safety, don't know if the QB is staying away due to good coverage, don't know if he blew some little nuance of the play, but that's some good praise from Demps. And you'd think Jahns wouldn't be so clear about it being Jackson's if he wasn't hearing good things from the coaching staff.

then maybe one day he'll be hired by a great GM at a real organization to help run their drafts that lead to a super bowl.

Agreed on Adams. I was all aboard the Hooker train but Jackson looks like he has the same CF quality and we should be thrilled to have him.

Just hope he can stay healthy.

pretty good reasonable deal for a competent tackle, which i think is all you really need nowadays at that position

if you are great elsewhere, sure, competence at LT is fine. But you still need to be great elsewhere, and that remains questionable for the Bears, even with the solid interior line that is still banged up.

1 young elite OL locked up (and banged up)

1 young very good OL on rookie deal

1 very good aging OL

1 above average young OL locked up

1 average young OL on short deal with little guaranteed

While it shouldn't inspire any complacency for the unit, I'll take it.

I meant more about the offense overall. You'd like some greatness at the skill position players especially if you're settling for competence at LT.

Trying to figure out who is who on this list.

Kyle Long

Whitehair

Sitton?

Leno

Massie?

man, if we'd just been able to draft cooper instead of white

our WRs are ass, but we're looking very strong at RB (a position i admittedly don't usually care that much about, but cohen looks electric and potentially impactful early on) and TE could be a strength.

i just can't wait for mitch to take over, whenever that is. it'll be weird to be genuinely excited to watch bears games again.

that's basically how i had it, though referring to kyle long as young (or even elite anymore) seems kind of hollow.

Okay, he's aging. And Sitton is already aged.

As far as the elite tag. Well yea, it's been negated because of health, which is why I mentioned it.

They play guard, they don't play skill positions. They are always banged up a little bit. Sitton is still above average and so is Long. Whitehair has a chance to be elite. Grasu has shown a little bit this preseason as well.
