Looks fast enough

Yeah, 4.58 is fast enough if you can make deep catches like that.

Yeah that was good body control to flip over after the catch to make sure the ball didn't touch the ground.

My honest guess is Glennon starts the first 3 games. If we're 0-2 and down at the half in game 3, that's when Trubisky takes over.

I THINK I'd rather see him start all 16, but if he gets 13+, I'd be happy enough. Its just that Glennon gives us no real chance, unless the D is dominant and I'd be OK with some rookie mistakes, given the upside Trubisky has too.

The team will struggle with Glennon because he doesn't get through his reads as quick as Trubisky, nor can he escape the rush, his arm is weaker and his release slower. Also, he's older than Trubisky.

He is, in all ways, inferior.

Yeah I see all the articles saying how well Glennon played. It looked to me that he played OK but was again completely outplayed by Trubiaky. The clock issues and fumbled snap aside. There is a huge gap in talent and ability.

Glennon is truly one of the most bafflingly short-sighted signings in Bears history

Uh, no?

And I hate him but this is just a really strange statement. Nothing baffling or short sighted about it.

Nah, it was both baffling and short sighted. Spend $20 million just because. That's dumb.

I agree. I said this a couple pages back, but I think his signing really helped throw the NFL off the Trubisky trail. The narrative before the draft was that the Bears are going defense because they had their QB. You had a reporter in the Chargers draft room quoting John Lynch as thinking they were trading up for defense. The Bears got their QB of the future, which is as future oriented as you can get, when any number of teams could have traded up ahead of them if they hadn't been thrown off the scent or the Browns could have just taken their guy.

So to me, and I know this is still not the widely held belief, the signing of Glennon was a master stroke of long term strategy. One thing I found out this week that supports this view is that the trip Pace and the coaching staff took to NC occurred before they signed Glennon. So I'd think by that time they already had their ideal plan in place. And even if they weren't able to get their guy, Glennon seems like he's a better hedge than anything they had in FA. Unless one would consider sticking with Cutty to be the best long term option.

Again, just my opinion, but I'm not going to miss a chance to shill.

Completely agree. Smokescreen stop gap. The cost is totally immaterial.

That much money for a QB who sucks and when you were going to draft a QB anyways is baffling and shortsighted.

They couldn't have been sure they'd get Trubisky at that point. I guess you can sit there and debate the cost of Glennon as a hedge v someone like Hoyer, but would have been silly not to hedge, given there were no cap concerns.

It was a smokescreen. Pace obviously fell in love with Trubisky. The Bears are well under the cap, the Glennon money doesn't mean anything. And he can be cut after a year, with very minimal ramifications.

You couldn't bring Jay back again, even if personally, I'd have been OK with it. You bring Hoyer back and everyone knows you're after a QB at 3.

Glennon got teams off a QB at 3. Pace did anything and everything to get Trubisky.

I really don't buy that it was primarily a smoke screen, even if that worked as a plus in the end.

remember how you all were in total fear of the Trubisky draft and Stannis and I were all chillllllllax

we win

He hasn't played a snap of meaningful football yet. You get nothing

i don't think it was primarily that...they did need a stop-gap, and they couldn't know for sure if they'd get mitch. but i do think it was a factor for them and something they took into account when signing him vs. say retaining hoyer or something low key like that.

there is not one single

Good reason why you couldn't bring jay back and draft trubisky

Granted, I've payed the absolute minimum attention to the Bears, but it really sounds like some of you are still trying to explain yourself in circles about the Bears on Draft Day. Like, if Trubisky ends up working out for them, hey, fantastic, but didn't they still needlessly trade to get him sooner? Like, correct me if I'm wrong, but it sure seemed that general consensus outside of Bears fans was "what the hell are the Bears doing" because apparently nobody as looking to pick him up ahead of the Bears. What they traded away wasn't some kind of back breaker, but can anyone really look at it as some kind of crafty masterstroke by the GM? Seems like he got antsy and psyched himself out of waiting to get him.
