What else could it be? Don't think the Yanks are looking for more bullpen help.

Carlos Gomez and Mike Napoli are both free agents at the end of the year, should come cheap, and could help shore up the Yanks' lineup a bit.

Cashner is also a free agent next year and is arguably having the best year of his career. Although that 4.50 FIP would scare the Hell out of me.

That's Sullivan messing around and making fun of our breathless refreshes of twitter.

Rosenthal says the A's apparently are requiring one of Torres or Fraizer from the Yankees for Gray, which the Yankees won't do. He said we want to be involved but don't have the prospects unless we include Happ. FWIW, just saw a short clip on MLBN. Edited by Cubswin11

I love Billy Beane but he is dangerously close to repeating the exact same mistake he made with Sonny 2 years ago.

With Price being hurt this might bring the Red Sox into the Gray sweepstakes and then Beane will look like a genius again.

What are the chances he Cubs pick up Verlander - post 8/1? All it would cost is money and no prospects.

I'd say zero. He'll clear waivers probably. But, Detroit would need to do a 180 on what his value is. Supposedly they think he's worth Javy or Happ lol.

i think they're just playing hardball (possibly PR to make it seem to the fan base like it wasn't easy to let him go) and eventually he'll be moved for next to nothing to move the salary

This is my guess, too. But this is a step too far. You deserve to be ridiculed for even suggesting as much.

Yankees just got gray.

Offer Zagunis/Carantini/Grimm/Duensing/one of those Aball pitchers who i dont know for Darvish. If/when they say no, offer that package for Verlander if the FO believes in him. I think that package lands Verlander if we pick up the salary. Im just not sure I believe in Verlander.

Damn, Fowler, Kaprelian and Mateo for Gray. That's a nice haul for Oakland.

At the same time, Yanks held onto Frazier, Gleybar, Sheffield and others.

Yeah, I think Oakland got robbed. Two broken prospects and a third that can't hit. Kaprelian is coming off TJS, and Fowler is coming off that horrible knee injury he had in his MLB debut game. I can't believe they weren't at least able to get Chance Adams or Estevan Florial.

Fine, Stroman in the offseason please

And Jake. Lance Lynn as a backup plan.

Boooooooo

Let's punch Verlander's HOF ticket for him instead.

Yeah, even at the age I think I'd rather have Verlander than paying Lynn and Jake 4-5/80-100 and also net an extra pick/draft money with losing Jake. If we are spending FA money on a SP it's Darvish for the top line guy or bust for me. Lester/Darvish/Quintana/Verlander/Hendricks then find 1-3 Butler's and Anderson's of the world off the scrap heap.
