Interesting article by Buster Olney about the availability of several starters come trade deadline. Not that the Cubs will be in the market for one. Interesting names mentioned, especially Gerrit Cole, I can't really fathom the price tag he would carry but it would start with Eloy at least. Only pitcher I would be willing to go all-in-on would be Chris Archer (still has 4 years left on his team friendly deal), but Olney doesn't even have him listed.

Greinke is the name that piqued my interest. Some interesting considerations with him but could turn out very well if they line up.

EDIT: This is also a topic better for Transactions, I'll move it there.

Yeah Greinke is a guy who really interests me. Obviously they have to eat some of his salary but I like him as a target. Kinda want Stroman or bust though.

I'm basically penciling in a Candelario for Marco Estrada swap sometime in June.

I'd love a Archer/Quintana/Stroman, but in the end I don't see Theo paying the price.

Cool. I thought I should have put this in transactions after I hit submit. Anyways, yeah Greinke is interesting but with the Diamondbacks playing pretty well I think by the trade deadline they will be in at least contention for a wild card spot so they may want to hang on to him.

I could live with that deal, not sure Candelario alone would be enough though. You're probably right about the other 3, it would cost at least Happ or Eloy in a package.

I'd be shocked if it didn't cost both, for either of them. We have no shot at Quintana anyway.

4/138.5 left for Greinke, AFTER this season. That for his 34-37 year old seasons.

2/56 left for Verlander at 35,36 year old seasons.

Verlander fits much better on all levels.

will hold strong for the Stroman pipedream.

never gonna happen; one could even call that a stroman fallacy

Why so? Just because you don't think we'd pay the cost? Their competitive window seems to be shut, they have a roster of aging/expensive players and trading Stroman could be a jumpstart to a reboot.

I think we'll bandaid our starting pitching thru trades, to be honest. We'll sign a high dollar guy and we'll get as creative as we can to try and nab Otani.

But, I think the trades we'll see for SP's will be for the back end types that don't cost much of a return and more tries on guys like Butler.

Since Verlander has 10 and 5 no trade rights could he hold out until the other team picks agrees to pick up that 2020 vested option?

So that would mean 3/78 and be 37 going into his last year.

i just wanted to make a bad joke

but i think conversations start with Schwarber there, and this FO wouldn't relinquish him for pitching imo

The Rangers are 11-16, Hamels is going to be out until at least the ASB it sounds like. What would it take to rent Darvish for the year?

Chapman cost Torres. Even if teams were blowing up pen value, I'd be shocked if Darvish doesn't net a top 10ish type prospect, plus more.

We just won it all, let some other team get desperate for rentals.

So much for that idea.

it's probably just breast cancer

Rickets is not going to pay for all these pre-existing conditions
