Strop has always been sneaky old(he turns 32 in June), I wonder if he figured he wasn't going to get an extravagant deal and he wanted the certain money and to stay on a great team/clubhouse.

I know it's not entirely apples to apples but this seems like a steal, he's been about as good or better than Cecil the last few years and he got 4/30 while only being 1 year younger than Strop.

Yeah, that's a good deal. The club option is a nice touch, too. Bullpens alter so rapidly that it doesn't really matter, but it's good to know we have him for another year to provide stability, if he's healthy. And you get that stability without having to give numerous years to a veteran free agent.

Yeah, the 2016 core of Rondon/Strop/Grimm/Edwards all being under control through 2018(and only Rondon not being under control for 2019) goes a long way to keep the bullpen from descending to a bad place.

Yep. Just from mapping out the bullpen and the future, whenever I looked at Cot's Contracts I was always slightly dismayed that Strop didn't line up with Rondon on free agency. Obviously, we are in a good spot with all the young guys around for a long time. But it's settling to have a buffer for a couple years before we have to completely re-tool the bullpen.

this is good news. i love Strop. he's so fun to watch pitch when he's on, he's excitable, and that forrest gump run he does is the best. and he pisses off cardinals fans because of the way he likes to wear his hat.

Well there were certainly extenuating circumstances about not using them there or much in the playoffs, I think if one or both were 100% at the time both would have come in ahead of Edwards and possibly Monty.

Well there were certainly extenuating circumstances about not using them there or much in the playoffs, I think if one or both were 100% at the time both would have come in ahead of Edwards and possibly Monty.

 

If one or both were 100%, Chapman wouldn't have pitched like 12 innings in the WS.
