#88: Lester Shuts Down Dodgers

Why on the list? -Up to this point, Lester had struggled against the Dodgers in his career. But this game was only the start of Lester's dominance against the Dodgers this year, tossing a CG 4-hitter with 0 walks and 10 strikeouts. He even made a couple defensive plays on the mound.

#87: Soler Power

Why on the list? - Soler starts the game by somehow missing a HR by about 3 feet despite crushing it to left, then launches one to the middle of the bleachers in center in the 9th to tie the game. By far his most clutch offensive performance of the year, and some flashes of just how strong Soler is when he connects on a ball.

[expletive], this thread makes me want baseball so bad.

God yes, I haven't been able to get into any other sport this year and my team was a win from the Super Bowl. The fact that we're going to be defending world champions all season is awesome. I'm pretty sure I'll think about it every damn day.

#86: Rizzo Walks-Off on a Strike

Why on the list? - I mean, it's a walk-off. It's not a particularly exciting walk-off, but it was the Cubs 10th win straight, and it was against the Cards, and that pitch was definitely a strike that Rizzo took away because of his batting stance. Or maybe Molina blew it with his pitch framing. Either way, win.

Not saying I hated the trade or anything, but I'll miss Soler. Hell, I still miss Castro. Both just seem so damn likeable (especially compared to, say, Arrieta)

Eh, castro had the possible rape thing and wasn't that good. Arrieta had a historic season and made a stupid tweet.

I'm not about to start hating baseball players with limited schooling from redneck areas for having redneck political ideas.

I love Jake. He was the definition of a bad ass in 14-15. I hope he's awesome again and we see more God mode this year than last. (Then I hope he gets paid by somebody else because horsefeathers that)

wanting lower taxes and easy access to guns are forgivable redneck political ideas. Being pro-Trump makes you a piece of horsefeathers human being.

unfortunately that would render a lot of baseball players i really like worthy of hatred so i'm gonna have to turn a blind eye on this one

i mean weren't we pretty sure KB is a trump supporter (remembering a conversation about him following trump on twitter and people not thinking it's a hate/entertainment follow)?

i'm gonna go with they're too stupid/sheltered to know how terrible he is and that's that.

You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic -- you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people -- now 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive hateful mean-spirited rhetoric. Now, some of those folks -- they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America.

But the other basket -- and I know this because I see friends from all over America here -- I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas -- as well as, you know, New York and California -- but that other basket of people are people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they're just desperate for change. It doesn't really even matter where it comes from. They don't buy everything he says, but he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well. And hopefully, those are the MLB players we love who voted for Trump.

yes, I'm sure MLB players fit into that mythical poor people let down by the government so they voted for trump side.

#85: Everyone Plays Defense, Even Travis Wood

Why on the list? - This was probably at best the 3rd most memorable thing about this game, however it is still unique and a lasting memory of the season. This wasn't even the first time Maddon put Wood in LF. This was the first time, however, that someone hit a ball that way, and Wood made the play up against the ivy in what at the time was basically a laugher with the Mariners that quickly became more interesting. Also, this was no simple play. From StatCast: Route efficiency: 90%; Distance covered: 63ft; First step: 0.2 sec; Top speed: 15.5 MPH

#84: Ross Hits #100

Why on the list? - Ross certainly went out with a bang this year, having his best offensive season in years. He hit a few memorable HRs during the season, but his personal #100 was certainly one of the big ones.

Fun fact, the chance Soler would have either hurt himself trying to make that play or completely botched it was also 90%.

I was at that game in the LF bleachers - we couldn't see the actual catch because it was right in front of the ivy but were absolutely stunned when Wood made the play.

#83: Chapman Get 3 Outs on 3 Pitches

Why on the list? - Chapman is renown for missing bats, so the Cards decided they wouldn't wait around for strikeouts, each hitter swinging away at the first pitch they saw. That didn't work either. Notable for being the Cardinals, and the most impatient inning against Chapman in his career.

I think the Wood play is my most watched highlight of the regular season. I think it's because the Mariners game was definitely my favorite regular season game. Actually it's one of my favorite Cubs games ever just because it was so weird (kind of like the Steve McMichael game)

On another note weird feeling to not have as much attachment to regular season games now because we won the friggin' World Series
