#51: All Zobrist Does is Hit Clutch Doubles

One of my 5 favorite hits of the postseason. This hit made the game go from 'fake rally' to "holy horsefeathers its going to happen'. You can even tell by the crowd. They seem mostly relaxed until that hit and then all the sudden the crowd just dies. Awesome moment.

Had to listen to this on the radio because of work and it's a wonder I didn't crash my car with all the yelling and fist-pumping I was doing.

That comeback was such a unique sports feeling. The actual game was like a depressing kick in the nuts and for worthless pessimists like me, I was already over the game for an hour or so and mentally preparing for a do or die Game 5 when all the sudden we went from that to 'oh yeah the series is over' in the span of 20 minutes.

I mean Game 7 had a similar emotional roller coaster to a greater degree of course, but this was more like I was dreading having to wait 2 days with my stomach in knots for this do or die game and then all the sudden the weight is completely lifted.

Just adding on to everyone else here regarding game 4. I, like a loser, spent most of the second half of the year dreading the playoffs because of it's coin flip nature, and I spent most of game 4 just dreading having to get through the next few days and then watch one game to determine whether the dream season was going to continue to be labeled a choke. Once this comeback started...regardless of what happened the rest of the way, there was a huge weight off my shoulders.

I think I'm pretty even keel, so I was spending some effort trying to make bets with various irrationally pessimistic Cub fans...

#49: Bryant Restores Hope in the 9th

Why on the list? - Coming off a horrific 8th inning where Chapman failed to get two consecutive lefties out and the Giants fans were starting to get their Conor Gillaspie statue built, Bryant came up the next half inning and changed the game right back. Sure, the Cubs couldn't push across another run in this game, but it gave everyone hope that no game was ever out of reach, which would come in handy the next day.

#48: Baez Starts the Playoff Party at Wrigley

Why on the list? - Now that's how to score the first run of the playoffs. Cueto and Lester were locked in a pitchers duel aided by the wind howling in from left field, preventing almost any ball from leaving the yard. Cueto had allowed just two hits in the game prior to this and no walks, while Lester allowed 5 hits, two of which found themselves caught stealing. But here, Cueto tried to quick pitch Baez, who demonstrated exactly where you could deposit that quick pitch. It just barely got out on this night, but most days that ball is probably leaving the park.

i know it's at night there's wind it's cold etc but i will never figure out how that ball is not still in the air. it should be in the lake somewhere. i feel like the matrix glitched and we're all like oh yeah sure the wind blew it back i totally get it while we know we're actually in a simulation and something went wrong on us

I was at a conference in Atlanta that night and drinking and watching the game in the sports bar of the hotel. I erupted when he hit it and would have been crushed and embarrassed if that didn't leave the park. But I didn't care if it went out by one inch or one mile - it did the job.

I also met a cute blonde from LA with a dodgers hat on that night and told her it was the wrong shade of blue. i think i used the line, "you'll have to excuse me, i'm an argumentative guy. pick a fight with the sky. dont like it's shade of blue" or something (don't believe she got the true detective reference but whatever it worked). ended up texting back and forth and talking horsefeathers during the cubs/la series. of course she was actually attending all the cubs/la games so it really was cruel on her part.

Yeah, I hate how that became a lightning rod for the worst kind of meatballs to harp about; that balls was horsefeathering annihilated and that it only made it into the basket is a completely weird and stupid fluke thanks to the weather that's going to kill us all within the next 50 years. horsefeathers the nonsense about putting your head down and running; when you destroy a ball that thoroughly, you should be fined if you DON'T pimp it.

No kidding. My inner monologue in re-watching this was 'oh wow I forgot he hit it over the Nuveen sign...oh I forgot that physics broke and decided it was barely a HR"

As soon as I saw and heard the contact, I started laughing maniacally. Apart from game 7, this or the Montero grandslam were the moments of the playoffs for me. Not even in the top 20?!

Just to give an idea of how many moments there were overall, just for the NLCS in my notes, I had 70.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but a well executed bat drop (see Baez here or Schwarber against Pittsburgh) is just as good as a bat flip.

Just once, I'd love to see Bryant pimp one.

I would also love for someone who is really good at video editing to try to compile all these into one long video. Maybe put graphics up to introduce each one with the titles bukie made.

Nah I love how Bryant is the one dude that shows no emotion like he is a machine built to destroy baseballs and he was just doing what he was programmed to do. Watch his HR in game 5 of the World Series, you'd think he just hit a HR in the Cactus League.

yep. i was at this game and i was basically jumping up and down like it was a no doubter (something i rarely even recognize right away) and was completely confused when the crowd was still watching the play/unsure as it landed in the basket. i would've looked like a horsefeathering idiot had that not gotten out.

I'll see if I can compile it into something resembling English.

I'm adding my support for this because I get the feeling that when I come back to this thread in a couple years, I'm going to see a lot of 'video removed'

#47: Baez Completes Cub Comeback in 9th

Why on the list? - After Heyward succeeded in failing to sacrifice so Brandon Crawford's defense could be blamed for blowing this game completely after a 3-base error earlier resulted in Baez scoring the second run, Baez immediately made the Giants pay after their 5th pitcher of the inning couldn't get him out on an 0-2 pitch. Strickland challenged Baez on an 0-2 pitch in the zone, because they'd apparently rather let Baez try to beat them than David Ross (who actually grounded into a DP on the next pitch), but the strategy came up short when a blue-hot Baez came through yet again in this series to give the Cubs a one-run lead that strangely felt safe.

#46: Chapman Makes it Look Easy as Cubs Eliminate Giants

Why on the list? - The Cubs traded a lot of assets for Chapman for one reason, and it was to advance out of the NLDS...or something like that. Chapman had several trouble games, but this was not one of them, as he didn't allow contact at all a half inning after the Cubs shocked SF with a 4-run 9th to take a one run lead. Never did a one run lead feel so safe.

this is a really good idea, and I would absolutely volunteer to do it if I wasn't so lazy.
