yesterday the world series win began to sink in a little bit. today the way we won it is starting to sink in. the cubs winning the world series was always going to be amazing no matter how it happened, but we ended up getting it to happen in one of the most amazing ways possible. the 103 wins, the young controlled core, the likable bff players, the 9th inning comeback to beat even year bs, a series comeback (after we looked dead) to win the pennant at home against kershaw, mother [expletive] shwarber, a 3-1 world series comeback (!), and then a wild game 7 win. even at the end, the blown lead in the 8th only served to give us a wonderful contrast to what immediately followed.

i wont lie, im at the complete opposite spectrum of some of you. i get the bummer that the season is over and this team will never be the same team again but man, this is what we all wanted. just because the season is over doesn't mean the team is gone.

first off, im so happy to have a break from super stressful sports for awhile, because i won't have to deal with that until april (maybe) with the blackhawks. but for me, im just so happy and so proud that THIS was the team i got to watch do it. a perfect front office, one of the best managers in the game and an unbelievably likable group of guys. you dont always get that. sometimes your owner is a schmuck and you win anyways. sometimes you win in spite of your manager. sometimes a lot of the players are douchey or not the biggest fan favorites but they're really good so you deal.

for me, it doesn't make me sad that we may never have this perfect combination again, it makes me really happy that i was along for the ride the last few years and got to see this perfect team get put together. we'll always have this team, even when we have other world series teams down the road, because this is the team that started it all and finally did something that no other cubs fan ever saw happen at the time.

ill probably be 70 years old (lol im not going to live that long) and watch the cubs win their 32nd world series over the last 40 years with theo III and joe maddon III running the show and ill be like "hey grandkids this is great, but let me show you the cubs team that started this horsefeathers because they were the horsefeathering best" and then i'll put a weird chip into all of our skulls and we'll be in some weird VR world watching game 7 of the 2016 world series together.

I'm with you. I know a title is a title and it really doesn't matter how many games they won during the season, but I love that they went into the season as favorites and more than lived up to it. I love that they were a 103 win juggernaut that just crushed teams and weren't a team that played decent, won 87 games, snuck in and got hot for a month. I wouldn't complain if they pulled a 2006 Cards because it's still a title, but I'm glad it went down like it did.

And then we got the playoff highlights. Javy Game 1, Arrieta and KB in Game 3 (even though they lost), the comeback in Game 4, Miggy Game 1, breaking Kershaw's soul in Game 6, Schwarber's return and almost everything in Game 7. Not that Cleveland fans would have cared had they won the title, but up until the Davis HR, they didn't have any epic moments. They barely trailed during either of the first two series and didn't have a single comeback until Game 7. Their playoff highlights consisted of scoring a few early runs and having their starters pitch well enough to keep the lead through 5 or 6 before letting Miller and Allen pitch 3-4 innings.

So who is selling 8 1/4" WS hats?

you're an ogre who doesn't deserve a hat

Well, congratulations on guessing the only other nickname I've ever had.

Still looking for a hat.

Question: do you occasionally find yourself uncontrollably yelling things like, "NERDS!!!!"?

Being a nerd, that would be a bit odd.

I was just the kind of nerd who stopped getting beaten up when I was a sophomore and too damned big for people to take on

But I still did things like ripping small trees out of the ground, carrying half of a car during a prank, and breaking multiple catcher's gloves, so...

So without going to crunch any numbers I'm going to say that Hendricks was the best pitcher this post season. He never really got gotten to. He didn't get abused like some of the other guys, but given how good he was this year the third time through the order this year and how he was never in trouble with pitch count, it's tough to dock him for Joe's quick hook.

Kershaw got got, Kluber got got, and Hill wasn't close to as dominant as Hendricks. Cueto was good but only for one start and got out dueled. Madbum shut down the Met but 5 IP 3 ER against us. Every AL starter other than Kluber is out of the running.

Lester was good, went deep with 1 or 0 runs in a lot of games. But he kinda got got in game 1 and did some crazy stuff in game 7. But his performances were on par. Arrieta was a notch below for some early round performances. But if you want to say it was one of them all good. No need for a debate on Cubs pitcher performances rankings just yet.

But this damn Hendricks! By my estimates, he was the best pitcher in MLB in the regular season and then was the best in the postseason. In his first clinching game he dominated and took Kershaw's soul away from him. Then he was cruising with Kluber's beating heart in his hand as Joe took him out of the WS clincher.

So if he's the best in the regular season, consistently dominated a postseason and was nails on the two biggest possible stages in his first go round that must make him...pretty good? Like if we started debating Hendricks vs pitcher X think about what guys you'd take over him with his proven nailsness and profile for maintaining his high level of play.

Just thinking about this because I saw him put into a deal with Trout today in an FG chat and I was thinking "I wonder how different this deal would have to look if it was Syndergaard in there instead of Hendricks." Cubs just won the World Series so I'm not gonna get salty if he doesn't win the Cy Young or get his rep, but man he was so damn good this year. So happy those elimination games fell on his days.

Fascinating post. Not a serious proposal, but an interesting one to debate. If you could go back in time, knowing how the season worked out... Would you trade Hendricks for Kershaw? We probably don't win the series... But who wouldn't do Hendricks for Kershaw before the season?

Best place to find tall size Cubs World Series gear? Fanatics has very limited supply of tall size options but don't have anything Large-Tall. Just XL-Tall and up.

Thank you Cubs! I'm still on cloud nine and almost obnoxious about it, but I really don't give a horsefeathers. There have been so many years where we've had to listen to the national media continuously repeat the history of the Cubs and not to mention - comments from other fans about Cubs chking etc... Its just a great feeling to finally have the upper hand in any baseball conversation I have with non-Cub fans. We've all spent alot of years dedicated to the Cubs and its such a great feeling to finally finish on top!

GO CUBS!

mlbshop has large & tall gear. I haven't checked their stock for the WS stuff, but I know they've had quite a lot in the past

I was there at Grant Park fairly close to the stage. By the time the team got there, everyone in the crowd seem to be exhausted. The grass was muddy and wet so we couldn't even sit for a little without getting muddy. So imagine standing for 6 plus hours in wet grass and mud with several thousand people around and hardly any space in between you. There was hardly any energy left in the crowd when the team got there. At that point, I think people were just happy to see them and ready to leave. With that being said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat lol It was the greatest birthday gift (my birthday was yesterday) I've ever received! The Cubs are 2016 World Series Champions!!!
