Please tell me why this is a dumb idea (and it can't just be 'because Ross is a better hitter than Contreras right now' because that's wrong):

Start Lester, start Ross in the 9 hole. Pull them both either the first time Ross' spot comes up in the lineup for Contreras/Hendricks, or after 3, or whenever Lester puts a runner on after 2 or whatever.

Like, I know conceptually this is dumb, but I'm having trouble putting it into words.

If you want Ross in the game, why not start Hendricks (to keep him on routine) and Willson, then bring in Ross when Lester comes in for defense? Ross has crushed LHP this year as well.

I guess just, if you're looking for some combo of Hendricks and Lester to get you 7 innings, if you start Hendricks and then bring in Lester/Ross after 5 or 6, then Contreras is done for the game. In a 9 inning game, it probably only means one more AB for Contreras over Ross, which, you're right, probably isn't worth screwing with the routine.

part of me really wants to be in wrigleyville today/tonight

another part of me says horsefeathers those crowds, cover charges, lines, uber/train/whatever, and just watch in a bar in the burbs which will still be crazy fun and much easier

i honestly can't decide

Go to wrigleyville. Go for all of those who can't. Go and soak it in, and own that experience for the rest of your life.

It's my birthday so I'm gonna do cake and horsefeathers with the family and watch the first 3 innings at home. Assuming the worst hasnt happened, i will then drive down to wrigleyville mid-game. I cant NOT be in Wrigleyville if they win, unless I was in cleveland.

On that topic, my wife has been suggesting I just drive to cleveland right now and buy a ticket. If I could find one in the $500-600 range I would...

Guys, we are horsefeathering winning this game. We're going to get just enough against Kluber. Hendricks is going to go 5 strong, Lester is going to bridge us to Chapman, and the deplorable human being is going to bring it home.

For Fred.

Kyle Hendricks becomes a Cub legend tonight.

I mean, he DID pitch a gem to win us the freaking pennant already.

But tonight he becomes a god.

This is going to be a legendary night. Neighbors want to go to the Cubs bar here in Austin, which was [expletive] amazing for game 6 of the NLCS, but I am still dead from the last 5 days in Chicago, so I am still debating. No matter where any of us watch the game tonight is going to be something we all remember for the rest of our lives.

my brain doesn't allow me to consider a situation where the cubs lose this game

i demand complete game shut out by hendricks by the way. lets just face the minimum like we did in game 6 of the NLCS

No big deal, just posting in the Game 7 of the World Series thread.

My ears are all fucked up for having to listen to all that Chapman horsefeathers yesterday (for 20 horsefeathering pitches!) and nothing about starting for the 3rd time in 9 days. Kluber is going to have a recurring nightmare of this game for the rest of his life. DONG SHOW, PART TWO.

GO CUBS! LET'S GO! COME ON!!!!!

Still can't believe how stupid all the Fox analysts are. The Cubs better not use the possible Cy Young in relief because the Indians are like 3/6 stealing bases off of him.

To be the best, you beat the best.

Game 6 to defeat the Dodgers and 2014's Cy Kershaw after being mystified all year by him.

Game 7 tonight against the Indians and 2014's Cy Kluber being mystified by him every time out.

This is it. It's what we've all longed to see. We can be nothing but proud and lucky as fans to see this play out. Don't suck!

I've often wondered if there could be such thing as an early inning specialist who's job is to pitch the 2-3 innings. Kind of the opposite of a closer.

I've thought about Chapman starting in Game 7 since we went down 3-1, pitching 2 innings and then Hendricks starts with the bottom of the lineup in inning 3. Lester comes in to close if Hendricks can't give you 7 innings after that.

Hopefully you could deceive Cleveland enough to make them burn through their bench and have the wrong players in to face Hendricks.

the stars really aligned for me to be able to do as little actual work today as possible, but still have some stuff I can do to try and keep my mind occupied/the clock moving

I'm nervous/excited, obviously, but oddly less nervous than I was yesterday.

i am so unbelievably nervous that there's some part of me that wishes i could not watch the game or something.

like my body is physically wanting to reject watching the game.

Maybe you're not a human. Or you're a freak. I've never been so nervous in my life.
