Ugh, not a fan of the WBC.

Me neither. Sounds like a great way for a player to risk getting injured before the regular season. Also a team-building killer for ST.

That and the "now it counts thing" for the ASG. That also invited an unnecessary injury risk. JMO.

So many things that Selig just fucked with unnecessarily as commissioner. Like Brewers to the NL and Astros to the AL.

Don't like no meaningful players go to the WBC anymore? Didn't the American team basically have like minor leaguers/role-players at best on the roster last time?

Question. When the Cubs win tonight, can someone who does a good impression of Steve Goodman's singing voice overdub the lyrics in Go Cubs Go to say "to best the best in the Major Leagues"?

lol, nobody thinks Smoltz is a Cleveland homer. we all think he's just not good at what he does because his analysis is terrible and his opinions are bad

I think he's been blatantly anti-Cubs in all three series.

This is an article on the preliminary roster for the US team that they submitted last month. Trout and Harper weren't on it because they wouldn't commit yet, but names like Arenado, Bryant, Arrieta, Kluber, Miller, Posey, Scherzer and Stanton are on it.

eh, it was in the "who's going to Wrigley" thread

Every bar in Wrigleyville is charging a $100 cover tonight. Just a heads up for those that are venturing out there and for those of us that don't like carrying cash.

Thanks.

Anyone have any idea how early you'd need to get there?

I called Schoolyard and they were anticipating a line by 4:30.

The announcers have plenty of faults, but neither is "anti" another team. Cleveland thinks Buck is wayyyyy pro-Cubs. Fans want homer announcers. "If they aren't for us, they're against us!"

I keep thinking of random Cubs related memories in my life...the time my dad picked me up from pre-school and surprised me by taking me to Opening Day, years later coming home from school and realizing that there was a Cubs game on that day, turning it on and seeing the last 2 innings of Woods 20k game, watching/listening to Harry call a meaningless summer afternoon game in the beautiful but aging ballpark, obsessively watching every game in 98 to see if Sammy would homer, and if he would watch the local newscast that night to see the highlights again, everything in 2001, 2003 and 2004, decent seasons that would fall short, watching the middling Hendry years where we could night find the winning combination as I started to understand advanced stats, the disapppointing 08 run, the many nights during the rebuilding years where i imagined what it would be like seeing the Cubs celebrate a World Series title, everything this season. I have gone through my entire life of Cub fandom, and realize there has always been this moment hanging over our heads, for better or worse, over all of those moments. It's all been building to this moment as a fan. It will never be the same again, and I for one am fine with going to the other side.

part of me really wants to be in wrigleyville today/tonight

another part of me says horsefeathers those crowds, cover charges, lines, uber/train/whatever, and just watch in a bar in the burbs which will still be crazy fun and much easier

i honestly can't decide

Stay at home. Your wallet will thank you for it.

Don't listen to him/her. Your memories and life experience will remember being around everyone if we win, and you won't remember this 100$ or 200$ in 20 years. Hell you probably won't remember it by next year.

I was thinking about getting the pocket picked - money isn't nearly the hassle that lost cc and ID are. But I can understand the other side of the go to Wrigleyville argument.

Am i rationalizing if I say that it seems like the Cubs have actually made some solid contact against Miller, they were just right at people?

I have found Miller in this series not all that intimidating to be honest. He's walked people, he's given up loud contact, he has, to be fair, K'ed a good amount of people. But he hasn't been an unstoppable menace, in my eyes.

You thought I shouldn't go because I might get my pocket picked (literally)?!

I have plenty of fun watching these games at the local watering hole I've been going to. I don't need to be price gouged and wait in absurd lines just to be near the stadium.

That said, if they win, I may still make my way out there.

Perhaps not, but what about PR, the Dominican, etc.?

If the Cubs win tonight, all the Cubs in the stands will break out into "Go Cubs Go" on their own.

Eh, I'd agree that Buck has been a little pro-Cubs, outside of his Kershaw obsession.

I'm kind of a homebody to begin with, but watching a high tension game whilst packed like a sardine into a room full of drunk people sounds like abject misery to me. You'd have to pay me $100 to endure that.

I've got zero issue with position players playing in the WBC.

Heck, I think Rizzo playing for Italy four years ago helped him quite a bit.

Pitchers are a different story.

He hasn't been pro-Cubs, though I will say I do think he (and other announcers) have a tendency to fall in love with certain narratives. The biggest examples this series has been Buck being quite effusive about Schwarber, Smoltz with the Lester/running thing,
