I'm not mad at anything. I'm annoyed by the people who can't watch a game without checking the win probability % every pitch

Ok.

Sorry, I forgot I'm not allowed to question one of Theo's guys.

What the horsefeathers is wrong with you?

Sorry is this attacking the post or the poster?

I'll add Soler to the list of guys I shouldn't criticize, lest I get cussed out.

you're criticizing him for all of the wrong reasons. if he was just being some dumb doof watching a ball drop in front of him, fine, but HOLY horsefeathering horsefeathers THERE WAS NO WAY HE WAS CATCHING THAT BALL OR GETTING SOME INSIDE THE PARK HOMERUN ON THAT TRIPLE AS THOUGH HE WAS IN horsefeathering LITTLE LEAGUE. Georgie is not the reason they lost the game, and it's horsefeathering baffling that you seem to believe otherwise

Anyone with a brain can tell good players from bad, but WAR is still interesting.

You're not mad at the use of the numbers. You're displacing your anger at what the numbers say.

meh. i was all about looking at those odds earlier on in the playoffs, but they're really pointless to look at now.

Assuming Heyward was standing in the exact same place Soler was when the ball was hit, sure.

And with a huge wind and Davis on first with 1 out, Heyward sure wasn't going to be playing more shallow than usual.

0.0% chance Soler or any other RF makes that catch, and 0.0% chance that Soler scores on his triple if he books it out of the box. He should run hard either way, it's the world series and you're a part time player, there isn't a tomorrow to keep yourself healthy for. But it didn't hurt the Cubs yesterday, and Soler had another hit to boot on a night where the Cubs had 5 total. I fully expect him to not be in the lineup today against Kluber.

538 estimates that took the Cubs from 62% to 37% to win the series.

lol what is the point of these stupid percentages. "cubs are 60% to win! oh they lost well now they're 40%! Oops they won again, back to 60% Crap they lost, uhhhh 37%!"

It gives nervous ninnies things to be nervous ninnies about

It's just pointless. "If the Cubs win, they have a better chance of winning the series. WHen they lose? They have a better chance of losing the series." TELL ME ABOUT IT

Even in some hypothetical reality where Heyward gets to that ball, he likely has to dive, get up, and then get an accurate throw to home to keep the runner on 3rd from scoring. It's far from certain we stop the run from scoring.

I also can't expect any player to complete an inside the park home run on a relatively shallow ball hit down the line that's misplayed. It just...is a completely and totally uncommon, difficult play. I don't think we had a single inside the parker this year.

we had basically everything this year

also, I just re-watched the Soler triple, and he hesitates for like a split second before booking it out of the box, he didn't cost himself a bunch of steps, and that reaction is instinctual to the flight of the ball too.

But just in case we think it really does matter, a quick point of comparison. Using the broadcast, From the time the ball hits the bat to the time Kipnis receives the relay throw just into the RF grass was 13 seconds. For comparison, here's Tyler Naquin(an unequivocally faster runner than Soler) hitting an inside the park HR where he slides across at 16 seconds: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v1070372483/torcle-naquin-hits-insidethepark-walkoff-homer That means that even if we assume that Soler with 'hustle' is as fast as someone faster than him, that Kipnis has 3 seconds to get the ball to the plate. For comparison, for Soler to be safe in those circumstances would be like him beating the throw to 1B on a line drive to short that the SS drops right in front of him. Again, 0 percent chance of that happening.

We just didn't get enough balls to drop today.

The Indians had themselves in perfect positions so many times last night. I found myself thinking that they've had comparatively oodles of time to watch tapes and otherwise study for this series. Wish the Blue Jays could have snagged at least one from them. I bet the Rangers were pissed - best team in the AL, and they go three and out in the first round. THAT would be a crazymaking result.

It landed a couple feet in front of slow ass Soler. You don't think someone who doesn't suck has a play on it?

Not to mention if the Cubs version of a combine hero bothered to run hard out of the box he probably scores on that misplayed triple

You honestly think that would've been an inside the park HR? I mean... huh?

Can't help but LOL at the concept of someone bitching about a guy "only" getting a triple on a bloop to RF.

Had he been running down to first instead of jogging, then stopping? Yeah, there would have been a chance.

Sorry, I forgot I'm not allowed to question one of Theo's guys.

Did we find Vlahos' profile on here?

In retrospect, it could've been worse: Soler charges the ball, it gets by him, and two runs score.

What a shitty game. I want our sticks back. And for Lackey not to suck donkey balls.

Also the whole damn team is Theo guys, except Willy & JB who Theo seem to love.

Apparently 180m to Heyward that Theo gave him makes Jhey a Hendry guy.

The Rangers were not the best team in the AL. They were the worst team in the playoffs. Just saying.

And even they were developed by this regime. They were extremely raw when this FO took over.

It would be cool for guys to run out of the box hard every single time, but that won't ever happen.

It's come up a few times this postseason, probably because every play is magnified. Willy had a double instead of a triple because he didn't run, Javy still had a double but almost got a concussion because he didn't, and some people think Jorge could have gotten an inside-the-park home run even though he probably couldn't have.
