Watching Schwarber makes me wonder just how good the Cubs team would have been this year if he was healthy all year and Heyward played somewhere near to the level he played even last year. Maybe some bad things happen like not bringing up Contreras, but they are definitely going to have some interesting decisions in the offseason. But who wants to dwell on that crap now, there is a World Series to be won with the most exciting team in baseball.

the dongs will be unleashed

The Cubs have gone 8 World Series games without a dong. Last one was Game 1 of the 45 Series (Phil Cavarretta)

I expect a Cubs dong party on Friday night.

We're talking a minimum 8-peat.

The name of the hurricane is "Hurricane Schwarber."

Sidenote: I am sad that the bad Michael Jordan fashion blog is no longer being updated. The man has been an amazingly bad dresser his entire life; like, what the horsefeathers is he wearing during this sketch? It's like a karate gi-style track suit. That was NEVER FASHIONABLE, even by terrible early 90's-standards.

I've decided all I want is for the Cubs to have a 3-1 lead in the series and go into the 9th inning of game 5 with a lead so big that Travis Wood, longest tenured Cub, can close it out in Wrigley and none of us (even Tim) will break a sweat

An easy clinching game where Chapman doesn't pitch would be amazing so, like, a billion reasons. But especially for Chapman not pitching.

The double play to win the pennent worked so the focus wasn't on him.

I guess the pill to swallow is that with average, or even above average, luck, you're going to have at least one major injury, or one major underperformance by some player. It's probably unreasonable to expect Schwarber and Heyward to be healthy and every other player to not only stay healthy, but excel in performance. Aside from them pretty much everyone gave you what you expected, or better. Maybe next year they'll both be back at 100% power, but like, Javy will have a bad year, or Rizzo will run into awful BABIP luck that lasts months, or *something*

What I'm saying is, Heyward ritually sacrificed his baseball soul for this team

Posting in this thread while I can since the site is super slow. I can browse the threads just fine but as soon as I try and open a thread the site speed turns to sludge. Not sure if it's my internet or the site since everyone else seems to be posting just fine (plus it's the middle of the day and there aren't several hundred people on here right now.

Just want to say that I love that Fred is posting the game threads right now, and that he is the first member to have a World Series win for the forum!

Go CUBS !!

The site is running quite well for me right now, honestly.

Cannot wait to see how many Cubs fans are on my flight tomorrow and then how much Cubs gear will be at the airport and on the El.

There were a bunch of Cubs fans on my flight from Dallas this morning. My buddy is in the air now. Wonder how many are with him on his flight.

they are now saying 40 mph winds blowing out. Is there any way to see historical wind records? I would have to guess that if the forecast is true, it would have to be among the top 5% windiest games ever at Wrigley Field (blowing out). Edited by UMFan83

It's almost like the last week of October is a terrible time for baseball.

I leave Austin at 5am tomorrow. We have a stop in St. Louis, which, much like this season, is a mere inconvenience as we make our way to the ultimate destination. I'm hoping we have half a plane full of Cubs fans when we load up with those bozos from St. Louis.

While I firmly believe in the weighted crapshoot thing, and I am not a big clutch believer, I do think that when we finish this off, it is going to remove a lot of outside crap that could (but not necessarily would) hurt in the future...stuff like the drought narrative that may or may not add pressure, and the postseason experience and success (especially so early on in so many of these guys' careers) should take any choke factor out of the picture too. Let's break through and 90's Yankees the horsefeathers out of this (or at least aughts Red Sox).

But that's not even what would make late October bad for baseball. It's gonna be in the 60's and windy. BFD.

Dammit, I did. I'll serve my punishment by having to spend the day with John Lackey brushing his teeth. :(
