Love out for ~6 weeks with a knee procedure and Ibaka got traded to the Raptors. The 1 seed in the East is certainly in play and maybe the East in the playoffs if Love can't come back/isn't himself. I could see the Celtics finally emptying their war chest to go for it to try and jump the Cavs. Meaning Jimmy could be in play there.

That Ibaka trade is insane.

The Magic basically traded Oladipo, Ilysova and last years 11th pick of the draft for Terrance Ross and a late 1st round pick.

I mean Oladipo is a bit of a bust (though still useful) but thats a lot of value to give up for what they ended up getting back. They pretty much lost the trade to get Ibaka and then lost the trade sending him to Toronto.

I probably won't watch much, but I hope they mention about 100 times that this game should have been played in Charlotte but our idiot, shameful, stubborn, hateful state legislators wouldn't repeal HB2. Such an embarrassment for our state and I'm ashamed as a North Carolinian.

Dunk contest was terrible this year. Every other dunk was an attempt over 2-3 people.

Plus Derrick Jones Jr. getting a 37 on a dunk he didn't even make was a joke. I know they're trying to keep the finals interesting but come on.

I never heard any mention of this.

ugh. well, that sucks. since the nba pulled out of Charlotte with the sole reason being HB2 I was hoping they could push the narrative behind the decision this weekend since it's obviously something they (rightfully) take to heart. Not that I guess it matters - our legislators don't care about the 100+ million dollars the state economy is losing on this event alone (not to mention NCAA postseason tournaments and countless other streams of revenue). all that said, it's just a horrible and reprehensible law that makes me sick. the economic factors don't hold a candle to that.

Ugly trade for Sacramento.

And a sweet trade for the Pels. Evans was not a good fit in NOLA and the other guys are role players at best. The Pelicans just got really interesting if this is true.

Sacramento's futility is impressive. I am very interested to see how Davis and Cousins play together. I love both of them so I guess I like the Pelicans now.

Yep. You get Hield (only 3 years younger than Cousins, by the way), Evans (mostly useless), a 1st rounder that, at best, will be at the back of the lottery and a 2nd round pick.

On the plus side, tickets on the secondary market are going to be even cheaper next year, which is good for me.

Commentator did mention it once last night.

I'd be pretty pissed if I was a Celtics fan right now. I get maybe the ask was too much on Paul George or Jimmy, but they didn't make a signal move even on the margins with the East/1 seed pretty open right now for them. Even adding someone like Robin Lopez, Taj, Afflalo, Wilson Chandler, Gallinari, etc. could have moved the needle enough with Love out to get the 1 seed and make the Cavs have to go through Toronto/Washington before they'd get them in the East Finals. They are going to have to make a move eventually with their picks because you can't functionally keep all those picks on your roster.

My completely uninformed theory on Boston is that they're so used to completely pillaging other teams in trade — because McHale handed them KG and because Brooklyn went completely horsefeathering insane — that the idea of actually paying fair value for anything is beyond the pale for them now.

The simplistic but dirty truth is that no team in the East is beating the Cavs in a series as long as LeBron and Irving are both healthy, even if the Celtics had made a big addition.

I disagree. They are vulnerable and the Celtics had opportunities, even if it wasn't adding Butler/PG, to take a shot at them and didn't. It's a combination of things but they are beatable in the East. If the Celtics were to take the 1 seed, Love doesn't come back/isn't himself, Lebron is logging major regular season min, Cavs have to go through at least 1 of Washington/Toronto to even get Boston which should be a series they'd get pushed a bit and have to try. The path to knocking them out this year is clear and the Celtics had the chips to put it in play but didn't.
