That one seems borderline optimistic on Kenley.

This one does not, implying we're off in years and AAV.

Are the Yankees going after Jansen AND Chapman, or are they just in on Jansen because they need a closer in general? Wouldn't put it past them to get both, but they should probably put some focus on that disaster of a rotation first.

You'd have to get both players to agree to give up save opportunities. Chapman seemed pretty horrible for the Cubs and even seemed upset when he wasn't being used in a save situation. I wouldn't put it past New York to want both, but I don't know that either of the players would accept a contract to not be the regular closer.

When Turner is official, they'll probably pass us in projected wins. Their depth is ridiculous and I figure they'll trade for Dozier and add another good pen arm too.

I thought that the Dodgers were supposed to have to get the payroll down this winter?

The rule, designed to ensure teams have the resources to meet their financial obligations, generally limits debt to no more than 12 times annual revenue, minus expenses. The Dodgers were not profitable in any of the first three full seasons under new ownership, co-owner Todd Boehly said last year. Their debt is believed to be in the hundreds of millions.

In the absence of Dodgers ZiPS, let's use Steamer's fWAR:

Starting 8:

Dodgers: 22.2

Cubs: 25.6

Rotation:

Dodgers: 17.9

Cubs: 16.4

Top 5 relievers:

Dodgers: 4.5

Cubs: 3.9

Trading for Dozier without impacting their current MLB roster would be enough for a virtual tie in projections, but they're still trailing. And of course we need to see what ZiPS says since it's better than Steamer and more optimistic on the Cubs.

Turner and Jansen at 16 mil each only adds about 17 million to last year's payroll, and they shed a fair amount in dead weight alone(Anderson, Utley, and Howell add up to nearly 29 million). Next year another 40 million with Crawford and Ethier. 50 million in 2019 with McCarthy, Gonzalez, and Kazmir.

The Dodgers will reset next year, so they can go after Bryce, Machado, CK in 2019. The key will be trying to save money on Kazmir and McCarthy. They could get out from under some of Gonzalez' last year too and go with Bellinger at that point.

Its a calculated move to do everything they can again this year, to win in CK's prime, before stepping back a bit for a year to reset the LT.

My guess is that right now any of McCarthy,Ethier or Kazmir are free if you're willing to take on the entirety of the contract. They'd still have a deep rotation of Kershaw/Hill/Maeda/Wood/Ryu/Urias/De Leon/Stewart

I'm not sure if there's a reasonable path to resetting next year. With Jansen and Turner they've got about 180 million committed for 10 players, plus Grandal's arb 3 and Pederson's arb 1 likely bring them really close to the threshold alone. They could pay a team in prospects to take McCarthy, Gonzalez, or Kazmir, but even then you're still dealing with largely the same players and not having any ability to improve the team for an entire offseason.

That's the point. They'll sit out next offseason. Probably still make the playoffs. But the roster next year will be the guys they're already paying, plus a bunch of minimum salary guys. Any other acquisitions are dependent on how much money they can save on their dead weight deals of Gonzalez, McCarthy, Kazmir, Ryu, possibly Puig.....But saving even half on McCarthy, Kazmir, and Gonzalez gives them 25 mill to fill in some roster spots.
