They're potentially a couple weeks away from literally having nothing on the Cubs and catapulting themselves even further into irrelevance and obscurity. They have every right to feel threatened. They should feel threatened.

Maeda.

If you mean game 2, Urias makes the most sense.

Game 2 is likely Kershaw. Urias also pitched yesterday.

But Urias didn't also throw 110 pitches on tuesday after throwing 101 pitches on Friday and doesn't have a bad back that he missed a good chunk of the season with.

All valid points. And Kershaw can still throw twice in the series if he starts game 3. It might honestly depend on the Game 1 result. When we win Roberts might decide he doesn't want to risk going to LA down 0-2 and start Kershaw.

My question is, does him coming on in relief really factor into things? I was kind of half following so I'm not sure how long Kershaw was warming up, but he only threw what 9 pitches in the actual game? On his side day? I know throwing pitches in a bullpen session is not equivalent to throwing them in a game but I'd think it would be a bigger factor if he threw like 30 pitches vs. 9.

But I don't know anything so I'm hoping someone can answer.

Yeah, I doubt that the partial inning he threw last night hurts him any.

It was the 100+ on short rest that would be problematic.

If it were me, I'd pitch him in game 3 and 7 to give him extra rest, but who knows.

Game 2 would be normal rest for Kershaw since he started Tuesday - I can't imagine the Dodgers not having him pitch on normal rest and I don't think 7 pitches last night affects anything.

Sunday will make three starts in ten days for him though, so he may not be as sharp as he typically is.

Yes but like Kyle said, 110 pitches on short rest could have some residual effect on his performance even on normal rest. If you start him Game 3 he gets 2 extra days of recovery, he gets to pitch at home where he is better (although Dodger Stadium is part of that), he still gets 2 starts, he is lined up to pitch Game 7, and if you need him in an elimination game he can pitch Game 6 on short rest.

I'd rather have him go game 2 personally as I think he will not have a lot of stamina for the game.

To be fair, it's not just since their WS that they haven't had any playoff success. Since 1918, they've won only 9 playoff games total outside of 2005.

Flying into town tomorrow morning with my 8 year old. He is already losing his mind. Will be there for both games this weekend. Hoping this is the start of a new Cubs experience for his generation of fans. I'm trying to restrain my excitement somewhat but it's hard when I see him so jacked up.

they've also never made the playoffs in consecutive seasons in franchise history and have only played in 2 World Series since 1918 (i know its been 70 years since the last but if the Cubs make it this year they will have played in 6 since 1918). They nearly equals in terms of being a historically inept franchise, and one of the underlying reasons they fear a Cubs title so much is that when we get it they will be the single most inept team of the pre-expansion franchises. I mean holy hell, they've made the playoffs 9 times in 115 years!

Lester faced the Dodgers in both series, and unsurprisingly did quite well.

June 1st in Chicago: 9 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 10/0 K/BB, 1 HR

August 28th in LA: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 6/2 K/BB

That's a 0.60 ERA, 0.60 WHIP, and 8 K/BB for those scoring at home.

Maeda managed to avoid the Cubs in those 2 series.

So weird that we played them 7 times this year and managed to avoid the only Dodger starter that stayed mostly healthy (right?)

Yep, Maeda made 32 starts, dearly departed Scott Kazmir was 2nd with 26, and Kershaw made 21.

In other fun trivia, the one run Lester gave up against the Dodgers was a home run by Hernandez, who wasn't on the NLDS roster and doesn't look to be a probable addition for the NLCS.

Other starters of interest against each other this year:

Hendricks: 8 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 6/1 K/BB, 1 HR, 1 HBP

Arrieta: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 8/4 K/BB

Montgomery: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 5/4 K/BB, 1 HBP

Urias: 11 IP, 14 H, 7 R(6 ER), 12/3 K/BB, 3 HR

Lackey, Kershaw, and Hill did not pitch in those 7 games.

My god. Kaplan and Rogers talking about bunting on the radio. Kap ranting about not being able to get a bunt down. He thinks Maddon would call for a bunt with anyone on the roster. They even brought up the Sveum bunting tournament. Ok...sure.

Why on earth would you voluntarily listen to David Kaplan and Jessie Rogers talk about anything?

Was just doing some work around the house and put it on. It's off now.

I'm in Phoenix for a wedding tomorrow evening. This will require me to miss Game 1 ditch the reception and walk a block to the sports bar.

Fixed. :D

The guys on the Score (ESPECIALLY in this time slot) are much more tolerable. ESPN1000 is horrific.

I started my car today and my tuner was set to 1000 from having last night's game on, and the first thing I heard was "well you know kershaw is terrible on short rest so he won't be going for game 2" so basically everything he said was completely wrong

I listen to the Score altogether too much and I'm beginning to hate that Bernstein has latched onto sabermetrics in the most simpleton way possible, that is, looking only at WAR numbers and not really having any intellectual curiosity into the composite numbers that go into it, and its infected the rest of the station.

I guess its better than people just going with their gut and talking about RBIs but jesus use your brain a little.
