Consider for a moment that with all the problems the Giants pen had all year, with all the pitchers Bochy used the past 2 games, he never once used Casilla, the team's primary closer.

I believe Romo was the "official" closer as of some point in the last month of the season.

I was wondering what the market was going to be for Chapman this winter, and right about now I'm guessing the Giants are pretty interested.

“I’m a pitcher. I’m part of the bullpen. I know I have had some bad moments in September and during the season, but I have good numbers in the playoffs and I know I can pitch in that situation. I know I can pitch in the big leagues.”

“I never had that moment before during five years here,” he said. “I had a little struggle. But everybody has had their bad moments. I think they forgot all the great moments I’ve had here. I’ve pitched a lot in the playoffs and done my job. I know I am a good pitcher.”

Reading this was actually kinda sad: http://www.mercurynews.com/2016/10/11/casilla-weeps-after-being-passed-over-in-fateful-collapse-in-ninth/

I'd probably take a look at him on a 1-year deal this offseason, if he's willing.

He wasn't even in the bullpen at the end of the game. Clearly injured.

Edit: Guess I was wrong.

Watching Coghlan go out to pretend he was actually going to bat was pretty funny. Joe knew Bochy would switch, you even saw Contreras in the dugout ready to go.

Maddon said afterward that he was ready to move Zobrist from left field to shortstop if for some reason he had decided to avoid a right-right matchup with Baez against Hunter Strickland.

Sounds like Maddon was at least somewhat considering PHing for Baez in the 9th. Glad he didn't. Joe the RH thing is dead!

well yeah, that is pinch hitting 101.

Coghlan had to go out to be announced as pinch hitter to force the change. That is also why Bochy hesitated for a second to make sure Cogs was officially announced and thus unable to come back in later.

The 9th inning definitely joins my top sports memories

Hester returning the opening kick of the Super Bowl

Paxson game winning 3 for the first 3 peat

17 seconds (I'm a casual/fair weather hockey guy at best, but that was still unbelievable)

and put 2016 NLDS game 4 9th inning right in there

Nobody sits in the bullpen in SF, relievers sit in the dugout.

What's happened to Casilla is exactly what happened to Carlos Marmol except the racist fucks in San Francisco forget that he got a lot of big outs for them in all 3 of their title runs. I feel for the guy.

Yeah but still hilarious. Bochy was playing bullpen roulette in the 9th.

my TV is stuck on CSN+ re-airing SportsNet Central over and over. I haven't gotten sick of seeing it yet

I had my DVR set to catch 3 hours of postgame on both FS1 and CSN. I should've done MLBN too.

Went to my son's room to put him to bed last night after the game. He had pulled out a bunch of stuffed bears and put them all around the room with all the Cubs hats and other knick knacks and horsefeathers he owns (he's a 4th generation rabid Cubs fans, so it's a lot of crap).

He looked up at me as he was getting in bed and said, "Now it's go time."

By the way either FS1, Comcast, or both can suck it. I set my DVR for "auto extend" and it didn't do horsefeathering horsefeathers. I'm so pissed. That 9th inning would have been a go to drunk late night watch frequently.

I can't get over how awesome this is. How many times in our lives have we watched a Cubs game where the Cubs trailed by multiple runs late and thought 'well maybe we can do this, but everything has to go perfect'. On some occasions the Cubs have succeeded, but think about how many times we got the leadoff guy on, the next batter is up 3-1 in the count and you are starting to believe, only to see liner right to fielder/groundball that is not quite close enough to getting through/chase ball 4/foul popup that almost gets out of play but doesn't. So many rallies we've seen die after getting our hopes up, we even use the term 'fake rally' in here quite often.

But you keep hoping and keep believing that it's possible because one time something like this happens and Bryants well hit grounder finds the perfect spot just past the SS, Rizzo lays off pitches he was chasing earlier in the series, Zo gets a hold of one down the RF line, Willy finds a hole up the middle, Heyward hits a terrible bunt that should have been a rally killing double play but instead ends up accomplishing what he was hoping for with the bunt, then Javy...0-2 count. You've seen this AB enough from Javy to know how it ends, but he's made his adjustments and instead of whiffing he puts the ball into play to score the winning run.

Sorry for the verbal diarrhea, I'm just trying to put into words how amazing last night was.
