If Bumgarner is good in this one this is the game where I flip out about the playoff scheduling that lets wild cards give their players rest

i don't follow

they already aren't able to use him in games 1 or 2 (or really twice in the series)...how much less rest do you want him to get

I know Joe's got this and then some but my 2 cents:

Line up

Fowler CF

Bryant LF

Rizzo 1B

Zobrist 2B

Russell SS

Baez 3B

Montero C

Almora RF

God-Mode Jake P

Late inning defense: Bring in Heyward to RF, Bring in Wiilly to C, Almora to LF, Bryant to 3rd, and Baez to 2B

What's up with Soler?

I just don't think Maddon trusts him to play defense in the playoffs, especially in a place like San Fran. Jesse Rogers is saying either Heyward or Almora will be in RF with the other spots staying the same.

When I put together my guess at the line up I was thinking Bryant could cover more ground in LF than Zobrist, but I'm cool with everything the same except Almora.

Soler threw out some Card in the playoffs at a really, really critical spot last year on an amazing throw. Because of that, I'll pretend he's almost as good as JHey out there, and loathe the lack of dongage. Sue me. This is coming from a guy that can't count to five effectively so take it for what its worth.

Soler has a cannon for an arm, there's no debating that. The problem is getting to the ball and making smart decisions with said ball.

I think if there's a game 4 we could see Soler in the lineup against a less tough lefty.

But with the way Javy is playing right now you cant take him out especially against a lefty. So do you take Addy out? Maybe but not likely even though he's struggling at the plate. Heyward against a lefty maybe.

Yeah, but what's more likely? Heyward gives you a good game defensively or Soler has a good game offensively?

Exactly so it's probably best to stick with what's worked so well: supporting elite pitching with elite defense

Plus there's some quirks and funky angles at the park. Not as much in left but I trust Heyward much more than anyone else to navigate that right/right centerfield

I like the idea of giving Almora a shot in RF and his right handed bat against Madbum but you're probably right. The safest play is Heward in right. Almora would probably be overmatched by Madbum anyway, so it wouldn't make much difference.

I used to think Baez at 3B was the best option because he was so good there and Bryant > OF than Zobrist.....but Baez is a gamechanger defensively at 2B, simply with his tagging and turning the DP, and this Arrieta/Montero combo is one teams will try to run on. I'd keep things the way they have been the last 2 games.
