Maddon was pretty bad today.

Pretty nice effort out if Montgomery.

I feel like Maddon "overmanages" whenever he goes against Bochy for whatever reason

What am I missing about Joe's managing tonight? I'm reading multiple people saying he was really bad tonight. I didn't have much of an issue with anything he did.

He outthought himself on the OF with the lineup, then left Arrietta in to hit with a guy on 2nd, let him go an inning too long, and then went full LaRussa with the bullpen. Strop and Rondon only faced one guy each. Because he screwed up starting Soler, and because he went LaRussa with the pen and double switching, he PH Ross who can't run as opposed to the zero RH on the bench and as opposed to just letting Coghlan hit against a LHP. So he GIDP'd with 2 on.

Then he left Montgomery in there for a 5th inning of work.

Last night (earlier this morning) hurt. I'm tired as horsefeathers but the odds are still with us. Trying not to let the Cub fan mentality get to me. A nice blowout in our favor would be sweeeeeet.

He had to leave Monty in there, he only had CJ left

Rizzo has had the worst ab's I've ever seen from him this series

I can't tell if he's pressing or just going through one of the stretches he has where his pitch selection randomly goes to horsefeathers.

The offense was overall ok despite going 8 innings with 1 hit (Bryant HR) but they don't seem to be making the relievers work a ton. I don't expect you to get a bunch of walks against Bumgarner (although they obviously made him work quite a bit) but you can't let these relievers off that easily. Or at least that's my hot take

My thought was if you're willing to go to Chapman for 6 outs, then start the inning with him.

It would be nice if Fowler, Rizzo and Russell showed up tonight.

And Zobrist. And Soler or Heyward. Bryant, Baez, Contreras (in limited at bats), and the pitchers are the only guys keeping the offense afloat. For all the talk of the Giants having no offense, their numbers throughout the lineup look much better than the Cubs.

I mean, I was willing to give him a break with Madbum...and even Cueto...but the bullpen and Shark?

I guess at least he's moved the runner on a few of his outs.

Pretty much summed it up. He also needlessly took Heyward out when he brought Chapman in because the P spot was up 4th the next inning. If you're in any position for Chapman having that at-bat, it means you are still winning and that at bat means nothing. I doubt Heyward gets to the Gillaspie ball anyway, but it would have been nice to find out.

Where is gam thread? Need a place to talk about how bad Moore is.

I don't know who's up, but if they're lucky they're still sleeping.

Yeah its not even the getting hits part, although that would help, but his ABs have been of declining quality since game 1. He has such a great eye normally and can put a lot of pressure on the pitcher but it seems like every AB starts down 1-2 or 0-2 lately.

Also, Fowler and Russell had some damn good ABs in this game...

Fowler and Russell each had one good AB.

I feel like I'm in bizarro world because the Cubs with the best approaches all series have been Bryant and...Javy.

Man, don't read the comments section on BleacherNation. You think I'm pessimistic?

With the exception of NSBB, I'm avoiding the sports internet today.

And I'll be honest, the baseball sections of NSBB are on thin ice...

Hopefully Sofa is OK. He was surprisingly absent throughout last night's game.

I'm assuming he went to bed at 6:45 as per usual

I'm jealous tbh
