It's even funnier cuz he's clearly looking up at the giant screen on the scoreboard and that's why he didn't try to get out of the way.

so the Bears are basically having the Cubs 2011 season right? Hit the tail end of any conceivable contention, having the worst and most hateable coaching and management, no immediate hope for the future except for a handful of players who themselves have question marks.

I mean, we need the mana from heaven that is Football Theo to land in our laps.

Hmm if they followed the Cubs rebuild it would be more like 2012 right?

2009 Cubs/2013 Bears - One last gasp for an aging contender

2010 Cubs/2014 Bears - Wheels fall off

2011 Cubs/2015 Bears - New management, same results

2012 Cubs/2016 Bears - Rock bottom but starting to accumulate assets? Maybe? Hopefully?

what if ryan pace IS football theo except without having started by taking over an almost ready made boston team, but instead having taken over the 2011 cubs?

please be true (nah probably not)

also previous regime was much more hateable than this one

im not the least bit happy with what he's done but I don't think you can compare it to the hendry situation. Jim had plenty of time to prove his failings. Pace should theoretically be more capable of adapting to modernity. But football isn't the straight up numbers game that baseball is. It's a very different situation

So that settles it. The 2020 Bears are winning the Super Bowl. With Lamar Jackson at QB.

Well, the good news is if my analogy is correct, in like 2 years we're going to fire John Fox and hire Bill Belichick

Hm not sure Belicheck is analagous here.

Football is THAT devoid of other coaching/team building talent.

Bernstein alluding to the fact that Pace is being stepped on by John Fox and his power is only growing in the organization.

The Bears upper level management is an embarrassment. Our best hope is waiting for Virginia to die and then they're forced to sell the team.

Was this something on the radio?

GM/HC conflicts/power struggles are hardly abnormal. I'd be curious as to what exactly was said.

I don't see any light at the end of this tunnel anytime soon.

I can see it if I squint.

As frustrating as White has been, it does usually take receivers a year of game time to come into their own. And I think we've gotten a decent number of useful guys out of each of the last two drafts. I can imagine a world where these guys continue to develop, and we another good draft with a high pick next year to the mix, and maybe a few less injuries.

Basically, we're short two OL, a second receiver, a playmaker on D and a stand-out or two in the secondary. *Maybe* the recent first-round picks on the roster can fill two of those holes through development, and you can fill a couple more with high picks in next year's draft.

There's just so many ways it can go wrong. Cutler is going to be 34 next year and has taken more of a beating than any other QB in the last decade. The offensive line is at least two guys short. Maybe White doesn't turn into anything and Jeffery leaves via free agency. Maybe Floyd never becomes any sort of impact playmaker. Maybe a guy like Goldman or Long becomes injured in a way that they don't come back full-strength ever and a position you thought was filled becomes a hole.

They're basically so bad they have no margin for error if they want to be not bad even two seasons after this one.

Why is it teams like Seattle and GB can just plug and play with OL, and the Bears just fumble over themselves?

In the case of Angelo, they went several years w/o even taking OL in first 3-4 rounds, and made due with signing 29-33 y/o vets. In recent years emery took a guard, which aren't as important, and pace has also emphasized interior.

You have to actually draft top tackles if you want a stable line.

A lot of that is smoke and mirrors, ask Russell Wilson. Their line has been trash so far this year.

also GB has had trash OL from time to time.

You don't need an awesome line. But you do need to give your QB either a plathora of skill position players or a great offensive line. You can't be weak on the line and have marginal skill position players. One or two talents isn't enough.

GB also has a ton of designed rollouts/moving pockets that mitigate that problem

As does Seattle. Mike Martz did none of that with Cutler and he paid the price, Trestman and Gase did a decent job of keeping him alive with moving pockets. So far, Loggains hasn't done that much, though Hoyer seemed to be on the move a bit more this past week.
