Fred has always been on of the iconic posters here. His unbridled enthusiasm for the team was always a breath of fresh air.

RIP Fred.

If any of us would like to make a donation in Fred's honor, is there a preferred charity for that?

Good question, thanks for asking - I'll try to find out about actual charities, but I'm pretty sure that if you send Tim a few bucks earmarked to support NSBB operations (don't forget to click some ads!), that's probably as good an idea as any. Like I said though, I'll find a better answer and make sure to post it.

Already done. But please do let us know if you hear of something more official.

That's almost perfect for him. I mean, it'd be better if Neifi Perez had a cancer foundation, but I guess this will have to do.

Seriously though, thank you for getting back to me with that info.

From the looks of it, we can only donate under the names on our billing addresses or anonymously.

I've emailed them about whether it might be possible to get our donations listed under Fred's name. I'll post back here with that info whenever I get that from them, for anybody who might be interested.

I think this thread needs to be given a "universal sticky" for those who don't venture into Social

EDIT: I guess that would make in an "announcement"

Fred sold (gave?) me a pair of tickets to a day game. He was in the Schaumburg area so I drove out there with my sister and met him at a local diner to pick them up. The drive took so long that we were actually going to be late to the game if I didn't hurry. Fred was such a nice guy that he wanted to have breakfast together and chat baseball, but I didn't have time so we settled on coffee. I remember him mentioning CubManPi too.

RIP, Fred.

Great to see the game thread forum changed. Now can we rename another forum "SweetSwingingBilly Transactions Forum"?

"Rawdog Cubs Discussion Forum" has a nice ring to it, no?

RIP Fred. This news bums me out way more than I would've expected. :(

I'm still in shock over this. Fred was one of the many Cub fans I met through this board and we developed quite a friendship. After a trip to Chicago in 2005, I never attended a Cubs game in Chicago where Fred wasn't there for at least one of the games. If I gave him enough warning, he would arrange his schedule to be in town if I was coming. We explored the city together. If he trucked his way through Monroe, he would stop and I would take him to my house where we might watch football or then take him to our local eateries. He watched the game with me in Texas as we saw Sosa, then a Ranger, hit his 600th homerun.

It was always a random moment when my phone would ring and he would call. Addie even called him Uncle Fred. A few years ago, she asked me was he really her uncle.

I will remember our late night talks. Cubs games could end at 4, but we would sit somewhere and eat and talk for hours. It had been awhile since I heard from him, but I was hoping to see him soon.

I'm going to miss him.

RIP Good Friend.

RIP Fred.

He was always kind and funny on here. I met him once and he was even kinder and funnier. He bought me a drink and asked me where I was from and immediately started in on stories he knew about the place. Reading this thread, it seems like that was a go-to for him, and I think it's a really beautiful one. He went out of his way to find things in common and try to engage with everyone he met if only because, well, wouldn't that be nice to do? And wouldn't that be fun for both of us?

A great man. He will be missed, and not only by his closest loved ones, or all of us here who are lucky enough to be able to share our stories with about his greatness, but also by people all over the country, people who may not even know he's gone, but will always remember that especially kind and interesting man they happened to have a conversation with once.

Just in case anyone is interested, this Thursday from 3-9 pm are visiting hours at the Willow Funeral Home in Algonquin, memorial service at 7. Definitely no pressure or expectation, but anyone who is so inclined is more than welcome to show. If you do plan to come, please post here or PM me.

If anything, it would have to be named after BacktoBanks.

I work for a transportation company and Fred called one time looking for a load (probably 2008 or 2009). I go long periods without posting much on here and never really chatted with Fred personally so I didn't say anything about NSBB to him. He was super nice on the phone and I totally geeked that it was him calling. I still remember it vividly. He had his own MC# and I had him spell his last name so I could look him up. It was definitely him. I regret not saying something more to him.

RIP Fred.

Shoot it wasn't SweetSwingingBilly who called Jim Hendry's office to tell him to make a specific trade? The one who then passed away a little while later?

That was SweetSwingingBilly. I was suggesting B2B for all the ridiculous 3 and 4 team trades he'd come up with. Either one would be good though.

I'm really tearing up reading by everyone's stories. I always enjoyed his stats and eternal optimism.

I believe he was the last poster here from the last WS title.

RIP, Fred.

This thread is making me want to meet up pre game with anybody who will be down by Wrigley before Games 1 and/or 2 of the NLDS. Like I said before in this thread, Fred is the only one of you I've ever met, and that was a pleasant experience. Of course, from what I can tell I've already met the best one of us all.

Yeah you don't want to meet us jerks. It will sour your impression of the board as a whole. Fred was one of a kind.

I met some NSBB folks once, many many moons ago at a Peoria Chiefs game I think. And I really don't even remember who all was there. I don't think Fred was one, but I can't be sure.
