top comment so good

Waiter: Would you like some pepper, Mr. West?

West: Please.

Waiter: [grinds pepper]

West: Hey! You’re getting pepper all over my napkin!

Waiter: My apologies. It was my understanding you considered low and away over the plate.

When I was 13 I was walking down the sidewalk in St Louis before a Cubs/Cardinals game. I noticed Angel Hernandez was walking towards me. I very creatively said, “Hey, Angel! You suck!” Amazing I know.

But seriously, if the 13 year olds recognize you on the street, something is wrong.

That tweet... doesn't make sense. Why is Angel calling and no one's answering?

Didn’t even cuss at the ump. I thought for sure the pitcher must have dropped an f bomb in there but he just said “that’s horrible.”

"That's the kind of thing that bums me out," he said. "To have pitches taken away from him in a crucial moment. ... Now my guy has to go home and feel bad about himself tonight. And it wasn't even a borderline pitch. It was a strike."

Maddon has never been in favor of robot umpires, and didn't waver Friday, even after losing a game on what potentially was a missed call.

"I'm still not advocating an electronic strike zone," Maddon said. "I'm advocating, 'Let's go, you cannot miss that pitch in that situation.'

Not sure where to put this, but bitching about the umps seems to fit here. I honestly do not get Maddon at times like this.

Okay, you're complaining about a missed call in a crucial moment. You're complaining about the performance of the ump there. You said it was a strike and not even a borderline pitch. Just a few games ago you mentioned implementing some technology or something to see if a batter checked their swing or went too far on strike 3...

So why the hell are you against an electronic (automated) strike zone especially when your own players, like Ben Zobrist, are in favor of it? I think I know the answer -- Maddon really isn't as progressive as the media portrayed him as before he got to Chicago. That reputation was completely made up. He probably likes the stupid "human element" angle that old-school types use against implementing an automated strike zone.

I hate umps (and their lack of transparency and accountability), but I also hate players/managers/execs who argue against adopting a superior technological solution to counter shitty strike zones/bad calls made by umps.
