I am guessing it's Cleveland with the budget restrictions.

Agreed, I'm just confused why the Yankees wouldn't pay the $5 million to maximize their return.

Because relievers are already the most valuable commodity known to man.

Seriously don't want this guy, especially if he doesn't have a mole like Brad Lidge so I can coax some rats to gnaw it off.

Hard pass.

I'm definitely a name on the front guy instead of the back, so I'd eventually be fine with it, but Chapman would be conflicting. On one hand, baseball has done a really poor job of welcoming women as fans, and Chapman skating on a domestic violence charge is another reminder to all of them that they matter a little bit less. At the same time, Chapman was put through the legal system(unlike, say, Castro) and served a suspension, so there has to be a point of equilibrium. You can't blackball every player you don't like as a person or Mojo's MLB would only have 15 active players. Plus from the Cubs perspective, odds are this is only a short-lived phenomenon.

As far as the costs go, I'm probably going to be bummed at what the Cubs would give up. Not necessarily because it's bad value, because Chapman is truly an inning incinerator you can use about 30 times plus as many playoff games as you want. But because it's for short term assets, and short term reliever assets, and that's counter to how I would like the team to be run, and counter to how Theo/Jed have built this team to be what it is.

TT what would you feel is a fair trade that would make you happy? What are some examples of realistic hypotheticals that would leave you bummed?

ETA: Also, does Chapman bump Rondon to set-up? Any feelings on how that will impact Hector/Cubs?

He for sure bumps him to set up, and Rondon said the other day that he doesn't give a [expletive]. At least publicly.

He got bumped for Jason horsefeathering Motte at one point last year and didn't make so much as a ripple, so I'm sure he will be fine.

Twitter seems to think everyone is too attached to our prospects. I'm not, I'd be willing to trade Torres...just not for a 2 month rental who is a reliever

I'd be annoyed if we paid up to rent the most dominant reliever in existence and then wasted him as a closer but i could totally see that being the likely thing.

I'm not attached to them. I'll ship every single one of them off. I don't give a horsefeathers.

I'm not trading the good ones for a relief pitching rental that is also a scumbag, though.

I am not going to be happy if we give up Torres and more for Chapman. Unless that more is like Dallas Beeler and we get Eovaldi in addition.

Even then.

Edit: Can get behind it a little more if it comes with an extension.

I'd be ok with the deal if an extension is done w trade.

Still obviously have reservations from a moral level as well as a risk of signing him with his background.
