horsefeathers goodbye Vogelbach.

But hello lefty reliever who was recently a top 30 prospect and is dominating out of the pen this year.

"dominating" may be a bit of a stretch, but he'd be a solid add.

Yeah, I could get on board with this trade. Vogelbach is forever blocked in our system, and Travis Wood's success this season has been mostly smoke and mirrors. Montgomery could be a nice reliever for now, and potentially be converted back to starter.

Edit:

And it has the added benefit of taking us out of the "Who's Going to Overpay for Chapman/Miller" sweepstakes -- which I was desperately hoping we'd avoid.

Lefties are hitting .164/.269/.254/.523 against Montgomery this year. According to B-R's system he has a 1.6 WAR this year

Nice splits vs lefties

What kind of stuff does montgomery have? I can see his stats, but I'm talking pitches, velocities, the works.

His fastball has been sitting 93-94 out of the pen. Also throws a curve around 77-78. His cutter and changeup have been mostly show-me pitches this year.

low to mid 90's fb, four pitch mix, all three of his offspeed pitches (cut, curve, change) are positive value

Mike Montgomery seems a mediocre return for Voglebach, his numbers aren't spectacular.

For everyone that realizes that Vogelbach is a fat DH who has only shown power once he got to the Pacific Coast League, a big, youngish lefty arm that was once one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, that can flip back and forth from the pen and start maybe, with tons of years of control left... it's a nice return.
